You're putting down Izzo. Everything you say is to diminish what he's done. Most impressive coaching job of his era.
I don't think anyone in their right minds would say he doesn't have players. I think it is fair to say he has made the final four with players no one would predict were good enough to make the final four on more than one occasion. As well as EE's and SS's.
Junc, do you still stand by the belief that ultimately, FF appearances are the measuring stick for how good a coach you are?
Not at all, just dealing in facts. took over good program and made them elite. he's always had the talent to win. I think FFs are huge toward that but it's never just any one category.
tell me which years he didn't have players good enough to reach FF? maybe 2010 after the injury to his PG but that was a very weak tourney. what other year?
Put it this way. 15 guys played in our Tournament Challenge - NONE of them picked MSU for the Final Four.
that alone doesn't tell us anything. No one picked UK or UConn to make it last year. I can't say for sure but I think outside of myself no one picked MSU to reach the FF in 2005
Every post you've made has been with the intent to denigrate him or minimize his accomplishments. The reality is that no one has gotten to as many Final Fours as he has during his era, and he does not have nearly as many elite prospects or McDonald's All-Americans as the big name programs.
that's just not true, you should read my posts again. McD's AAs can be very overrated, he constantly gets big time talent and usually his guys don't leave early so they can develop. al time great coach but inherited good program and wins w/ big time talent.
Of course it's true. You should read my posts again. By any measure, his talent does not match up with programs like UNC and Kentucky. I guess we should ignore McDonald's All Americans because it doesn't back up your argument to denigrate Izzo's accomplishments.
put UNC and Kentucky aside, does he consistently have big time talent? if not that's on him b./c being a great coach you need to recruit but he's an excellent recruiter. he finds the guys that will fit his program, that aren't always the 5 star guys. Izzo is my favorite coach not named Roy Williams.
There is a difference between recruiting guys to fit his team and elite talent. One of the reasons you say Brady is the greatest QB ever is he has had such little talent at WR which may or may not be true but the Pats get guys to for that scheme and they become great players.
completely different sport, Brady plays the most important position and has proven he can win w/ anyone playing alongside him. just b/c a guy isn't a 5 star recruit doesn't mean he's not a big time talent. Kaminsky was a 3 star guy coming out of HS, there are a million examples like that.
And calling one coach a better recruit than another solely because of the talent he assembles year in and year out doesn't tell the whole story either. Sure each school vies for the best basketball talent but some schools limit their lowering of admission (academic and otherwise) standards let alone allowing for an "in-at-all-costs" mentality.
His players don't leave early usually because they couldn't, they would not be drafted. Which speaks to the point that he's doing it without the type of players that they are doing it with at UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, etc..
he's had plenty of players that could have left early and many that have left early but he has less guys leave early than others. at this moment b/c of the BS scandal I don't believe we can include UNC w/ those other 3 schools. once the BS is behind them they will get back to top 5 classes consistently but the elite prospects have spurned the Heels in recent years.
