He was injured in 2013 and was in for 10 plays for the Oakland Raiders last year. Prior to that he was playing at a high level. Maybe he is toast but what are you basing that on?

    He's 33, not 40.

If he can return to pre-injury 2013 form he'd be a good stop gap for us. It's worth taking a chance seeing how he's a free agent, especially since the odd man out is Simms.

its more of a why not? especially since he'll cost mere peanuts. Bring him in, who cares?

If he does in fact suck than he is like many of guys on the roster that will be cut prior to week 1. Simms is in that group.

he's never played at a high level, he's put up some good #s w/ excellent talent around him but he's never played at a high level consistently.

In those 10 passes he had 2 INTs and a pick 6. he's shot mentally, that's worse than physical damage.

I'm sorry you feel this way and really have yourself believing he can help this team.

I'm basing it on pure results. Leading up to his injury last year he was sucking hard ... Raiders fans were outright begging for Carr to take over bc of this. In fact Carr only got his chance bc schaub sucked so much in preseason and training camp.

Yes if he can return to his form of 2 YEARS ago and show he can not throw pick 6s every 3rd snap, and show last year he didn't look totally washed up , then yes. He can help this team.

I get were desperate for a qb but let's not become delusional in the process.

Btw we want to cut Simms? Fine by me. But let's replace him w someone w even a semblance of upside. Draft a qb for this roster spot late round who has upside but needs mechanical work.

Schaub mentally collapsed in HOUSTON...what on earth makes you think NEW YORK would help him get mentally confident.

This is apparently what Mac&TB are doing, being pro-active shoring up a gaping hole in the team. I'll take Schaub backing up Fitz over Geno, it's a no brainer. Thankfully Mac&TB are doing everything possible to address the one thing that will bring this team down, like it has for years.
There's many veteran QB's over the years that helped teams win, and produced, and the teams had good runs, under the right circumstances. Thankfully the decision makers aren't gonna wait to see if the young guys will maybe get it while the rest of the organization is waiting, waiting hoping, fuck that logic. Looks like Simms is odd man out, good, progress.

Are you referring to the Saints game? OK, he had that decent drive at the end - but he hasn't done anything since then. The Giants game, he was awful - he had several chances that 2nd half to lead his team.

Don't be that guy that blames it on Kyle Williams and the refs, Alex Smith couldn't sustain drives.

Alex Smith, Schaub - they won't win the big game for you going forward.

This is definitely the key thing to take away -- the FO sees the problem and is trying to do something about it. Whether or not they bring Schaub on board, just kicking the tires shows a dramatic improvement over paralysis-by-analysis (Idzik) or blind loyalty (Tannenbaum). Good stuff.

I don't tend to put much stock into how players do in Oakland. I think he's worth a chance given our situation. Gailey is also a guy who has done more with less at the QB position.

I don't have anything against Simms btw, I've been vocal about giving him opportunities over Geno, who sucks.

No matter who winds up at QB, if we can get some solid play at the position we are going to be a force to reckon with.

Why not? Off the top of my head,

He's been terrible the last two years, and has served as backup to TJ Yates, Case Keenum, and rookie David Carr.
He has never been a winning QB
    He'll be 34 in June
    He's injury prone
He has no future and no potential
We already have three QBs under contract
He made $8 million last year. He's not going to play for the veteran minimum, which would still cost about $1 million.
We might want to draft a QB this year.
We have roster limits, even during the offseason.

I don't really put any stock into your opinions on QB's. Posting a 90+ QB rating 5 years in a row is playing at a relatively high level. It's not elite level, but certainly much, much better than anything we've seen in a while and that includes your boyfriend.

    And with that, I'm out.

that's why you post the nonsense you post. if you did p[ay attention you would learn and not post such nonsense.

a decent drive at the end? he led his O to 36 pts including the GW TD that started at the SF 15 w/ a min and a half to play.

the Giants D was GREAT that postseason, they shut down Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers too but that game was lost b/c of a blown call and 2 fumbles on STs which had nothing to do w/ the QB.

don't be that guy? NYG scored 10 pts the last 3 qtrs.- both scoring drives set up by great FP on Kyle Williams fumbles but that didn't play any role, it was Smith's fault.

what about leading his O to 40+ pts at Indy? Alex Smith is head and shoulders better than Matt Schaub.

If he's so good how come Cleveland who literally barely has a starter hasn't signed him? Why not HOUSTON take him back?

Citing the past is irrelevant to present day.

2 turnovers by the 49ers D to help set them up. Still, it was the lone spot in Alex Smith's playoff career.

Doesn't change the fact that Alex Smith was throwing the football into the dirt and under-throwing receivers the entire 2nd half. I remember the game like it was yesterday, Smith was awful.

Colts D was absolute trash - they couldn't stop the run and Jamaal Charles was the real MVP that game, not Alex Smith.

Alex Smith ain't all that great IMO. Eventually he will fold just like that Giants NFCCG.

Not every game is pretty, 2 of his 3 games he led the O to 30+ pts, his lowest output was 17 pts and he lost 2 possessions on those STs TOs. That was a defensive/STs struggle and NYG's D/STs won the game.

4 TD passes and 40+ pts but Smith did nothing.

I have no need to make myself feel good about Schaub. lol

I don't blame Oakland for anything, I just don't really put much stock into what players do there since it's an awful franchise.
