If the RGIII trade has any barring with a trade up this year, I think would be setting the bar of what will NOT happen. Given WAS's plight since the trade and the hindsight view of the compensation given up by WAS, I would think teams would be far less likely to give up 3 first and second than they would have had if RGIII developed into John Elway. Of course, TEN can start there or higher if they want, but I can't see anyone engaging them. Take it for what it's worth as it is coming from an inferior almost laughable base of knowledge of the draft process.
yeah i feel you! I wouldn't want us to trade up for Mariota... He's 3rd on my list behind Beasley and Cooper. I'm just praying Oakland doesn't take Cooper.
So you'd prefer the second best WR in the draft when you could find a comparable guy at the top of the second round? Rather than potentially fix the decades long problem at QB for this franchise? Maybe we just go OT instead. _
I feel Amari fits our offense better than Kevin White right now.. if we didn't get Marshall it would be a different story. Amari in the slot with deck and marshall on the outside is dangerous, plus he could be our #1 once Marshall is gone. Amari has a way higher chance of reaching his potential in the NFL than Mariota does. I'm not saying Mariota is bad nor that he won't be a great QB one day.. but there's more of a chance he flops. I also feel with all that talent on the defense Beasley would be our final missing piece to having one of the best defenses on paper Ive seen in recent memory. If Mariota is there and they love him then fuck it..take em. & i don't hate Geno Smith and still believe he has a chance to be a good QB.. save the slander.. i already know.
How is that exactly? One could fairly say that it's likely that Cooper has reached his ceiling. He's already a great route runner, has good hands, decent speed. He doesn't have a lot more visible potential. Mariota performed at a higher level in college than Cooper did, but due to changing systems and having a chance to play on a team with an excellent OL and WR corps, his ceiling is sky high, and his floor isn't very low. A good QB is 1,000 times more important than even a great WR. How is Beasley the missing piece to our D, when he is pretty bad against the run, and would only be a situational pass rusher unless he learns how to play the run? I might add that you don't take a situational pass rusher at #6.
This. Lol, I actually had originally said 1000x as important but I thought that was to hyperbolic so I changed it to 100x. But it's closer to 1000x. _
"He's already a great route runner, has good hands, decent speed." That's exactly why i'd take him lol. & I don't feel Beasley needs to be a great run stopper on our defense. But he's a force when rushing the passer, which by the way Bowles does a LOT.. more than anybody else. Going to be hard to do that with Calvin Pace and Coples.. Coples isn't bad but he has been inconsistent. That's just my opinion.
I'd be happy with either or honestly. But i'd feel more comfortable with Cooper from day 1. That's just me.
Ok guys this is it. The moment of truth for the Casserly/Wolf hand picked decision makers. Mac and Bowles probably already have trade package in hand after impressive performance by Mariotta. On Tuesday they see what JW brings to table..perhaps plan an ante up for him as well. But this opportunity to grab a great QB among two good candidates will remind them how the Jets blew it last year not getting Bridgewater, Carr, Garappolo. If anyone thinks our FA trades for Marshall are to benefit Geno is sadly mistaken. Winning begins an ends with the best QB you can get. Even Bowles knows the defense cannot produce a Division for NY. Decades of crap products on the field are going to end. Sorry, but I just don't get the logic behind those fans who would rather go for Fowler, Cooper and march into further denial that this team is ok at QB. I think a trade happens or we land a premier vet QB.
Seriously, since everything (and everyone) 'draft-related' here in "today's TGG" is so beneath you why would you continue to waste your time here among the unwashed masses let alone serve as a moderator?
There are few solid posters, too bad you're not one of them. Your reputation at TGG is not the best, should I remind you of your infractions over time.
It is my understanding that in Bowles' D OLBs HAVE to be able to play the run, and not just be one dimensional pass rushers. I agree that Pace and Coples need to be replaced, but that isn't more important than getting a franchise QB imo. Beasley may have rocketed up the draft boards, but being one dimensional concerns me and I wouldn't want to take him at #6. I would take Fowler if Mariota isn't there, but not Beasley.
Cooper probably would contribute more from day 1, but that is not a given. After day 1, what about days 180 and going forward? Mariota could play at a very high level for the next 10-15 years and Cooper could be out of the NFL in 2 years with concussion syndrome.
When RG3 came out, Cleveland was sitting at the 4th pick and Washington had 6. It was basically a bidding war between those 2 and Washington went balls to the wall with that trade. If the Jets really want to trade up to 6, it will cost less than for the other teams because the drop off from 2 to 6 is nothing compared to 2 to 17 or 20 Still though, I hope we dont trade up
