No. But I'd give him significant looks in the pre-season. And a chance to get on the field if he outplays the opposition which isn't that hard to do. My point is this. You can't prejudge players and say they can't play. Probably Simms isn't that good. But he might just be better than Geno and Mark.
He's had plenty of looks in pre season and reg season snaps he's also had Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Same way we know most QB's who never see the field aren't any good. If the guy had something to give, the team would have given him a start at some point. The fact that the Jets have been bad at evaluating the QB position is a valid point though.
Yeah and for every Sanchez good game there were 5 bad ones. No starts means no opportunity. It's the only way you can fairly judge a Qb. And in his case he'd be lucky to even get one. If he's terrible (like Sanchez and Geno) he doesn't get a 30th or 60th chance. I just can't accept your blanket assessment: he sucks so don't ever play him. He's played well in pre-season games too. A lot better than those other two.
This same philosophy of don't ever give a player a chance because we think he sucks is not only unfair but can lose games. We'd have been a lot better off giving Timmy a few starts in 2012 than staying with a Qb who was losing games for his team and was clearly over his head. We had nothing to lose! Even in retrospect knowing the awful results of stubbornly playing Mark Sanchez even though he was horrible the Tebow haters still say : Sanchez should have played. Of course Tebow is good at one thing: winning games. I thought that was why they traded for him. Not throwing perfect spirals to opponents like Sanchez.
Better then not having him I guess. Its pointless either way, they are both done there carrers are over
I can't accept your we don't know so start him thing. It's ridiculous. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No starts doesnt mean no opportunity. You have to do something to show that you're worthy of being given a start. He clearly has not done that.
Schaub is a guy who has actually played at a pretty high level in the NFL which is something we can't say for the guy currently penciled in for the starter by our new coach. He was injured in 2013 and didn't really play in 14. Prior to that he was a QB who had posted five straight 90+ QB rating seasons. I probably don't need to remind you guys that the last time the Jets had a QB with a 90+ rating was over a decade ago when Pennington did it in 2004. 33 is a spring chicken for QB's now a days too. Why not pick him up and cut Simms? There's virtually zero downside, unless you're a homo who's terrified the Pats will pick up Simms and put him in to throw a TD against us when they're up 76 - 3 in the 4th quarter.
Ever hear of a thing called work? I saw it, no one posted, I thought I would share with our fellow board members.
Exactly. Would he cost much more than Simms? It doesn't look like there will be a QB in the draft, so how does bringing in Schaub hurt us? If Simms really is crappy, which all signs point to, get rid of him, and let those three fight it out in camp.
Here's a thought: With the QB position SO important, there should be an off-season league for QBs to develop. Not the Bradys of the world, but the Matt Simms, Johnny Football, that 2nd QB the 'Skins drafted with RG3. Those guys. Face it, with training camp cut way back, the ONLY QB who's gonna get 'developed' is your pride and joy, your first round pick, the kid you hung your career on. 2nd, 3rd, even UDFA walk-ons are considered 'camp fodder', just another arm to work out the WRs, or run the scout team. They never get a serious shot at anything, and most won't even see a live game unless the golden boy goes down. So, start an off season QB developmental program for all non-starting QB's. Let them get developed without the rushed pace of training camp. Let them develop technique, 3 step, 5 step, under center, shotgun, whatever. I know there are some renowned QB schools that work with certain QBs one on one. Expand that concept. Each team can nominate 2-3 QBs to participate in the program. Players are paid, and it's an official program run by experts. I'd do it!
Again they said the same about Kurt Warner: he sucks so don't play him. I'm not saying that Simms is any good. But to say he shouldn't even get a chance. Well then if so why haven't they cut him. There is no barometer to measure a Qb except playing in a regular season game and over a period of time starting. And plenty of guys who never got a sniff like Kurt Warner have sometimes after injuries gotten a chance and played well. Some guys like Mark and Geno got a million chances and failed badly. I have no problem allowing Simms into competition for the Jets open Qb jobs. He was actually the backup in 2013. The one thing I hate is someone making a blanket statement that someone can't play when they don't know what they're talking about. You prove that on the field. So far Geno and Mark have. Simms hasn't.
