I see people on here comparing Bowles to Parcells a lot. Since I will be the first to admit I know little about player analysis, was Phil $imms considered an elite quarterback?
You are correct, but those QB moves were made while he was there and that's all I have to go on. I was responding to the question of why I don't have confidence that Macagnan will find a good QB for the Jets. Truth is, I don't know whether he will or not. I sure hope he does, but if he does, he will break a long tradition of Jet failure at finding good QB's.
He's not elite? And he should have finished that statement and said a few non-franchise QBs make it to the playoffs but NONE of them win the superbowl, at least not in recent history.
That was sarcasm..anyway I hope Bowles isn't really stupid enough to think he doesn't need a franchise qb and that is all part of the early spring smokescreen that everybody throws up.
I know that's why I put the LOL at the beginning. If there aren't any to be had can't force it. JMO I'm hoping for a veteran to fill the role Bowles described. Like the Chiefs are doing with Alex Smith, the Cardinals are doing with Carson Palmer. Is Fitzpatrick that guy? I don't know. He's clearly a upgrade from Geno I'll give him that.
Don't need an elite QB to win- see Mark Sanchez's two AFC Championship appearances, Christian Ponder's playoff season, Carson Palmer, Andy Dalton, Joe Flacco, Eli Manning through the years- but it would be nice to have a consistent one who can be solid. See that more in Fitzpatrick than Geno, though I guess Geno's ceiling is higher. His basement is just way too low.
Really we are celebrating Christan Ponders ,Carson Palmer and Andy Daltons playoff lossess? And Sanchez doesn't deserve to be mentioned on that list either our num 1 defense and running game got us there Sanchez made plays when he had to but he didn't get us there on his back......
Nothing more than a blind squirrel finding an acorn. Any QB could have done that with the #1 defense and the #1 running game.
That's my point exactly- the jets did it without an elite QB, so technically, Bowles is right- we don't need one to win. It'd just be damn helpful.
Phil Simms was a game manager. He was a dumb, more conservative Fitzpatrick with a slightly stronger arm.
Dumb? How dumb can a Super Bowl winning QB be? The lowest Wunderlic test score ever belongs to Akili Smith, apparently. Cinci fans are silently cursing to themselves for that pick!
