I personally feel he is the best pass rusher in the draft. His production and physical attributes are elite... He would be a dream in the 2nd round but no way he slips that far...
Speaking of stupid...you wouldn't take a top 10 talent as an UDFA? Deep breath here buddy, it's weed not pills or H
I actually think this guy is worse than Gordon or maybe he's addicted to it if that's even possible. How the hell do you fail twice in college and then again at the combine? Bu his own admission he has a serious problem with it and what's going to happen when somebody stuffs a million bucks in his pockets? It will be very interesting to see just how far he falls and personally I doubt he goes before the 3rd round if then.
I mentioned the weed, but of course, it's not the weed in and of itself. It's that the guy is either stupid, is an addict/has no control. It's also a matter of what is his commitment to football. Ricky Williams wasn't really committed to football. It was something to make him famous and a lot of money so he could smoke a lot of weed. Gregory has to be an idiot to smoke it right before the Combine and football must not mean very much to him. Seriously, if I'm a GM, I'd take him off my draft board completely. I think he'll be one of those types who's always in trouble or has a half-hearted commitment to the game and won't work hard seeking to excel and be the best.
Well we totally disagree. I think he excelled in college for the same reasons a lot of players do in college...they're naturally bigger, stronger or faster. Then in the NFL they struggle or are nothing. IMO his failing the drug test screams that he isn't committed to football, to working hard and excelling. He's stupid and likely to struggle to learn and adapt in the NFL, likely to get in trouble again for smoking pot if it isn't legalized, and will be an underachiever. I might take a chance on him as a UDFA, but that would be it. I wouldn't even waste a 7th round pick on that dumbass.
Didn't Warren Sapp drop because of weed? Who knows, but some team picking in the 15-32 range could be getting a steal now.
It's not that it's weed. It's that he knew he was gonna be tested at the Combine, and if caught it could cost him millions of dollars, and he was stupid enough to do it anyway. It sounds like he has real emotional or mental issues and I have to seriously question his commitment to football. As I said in my post to Rockinz, I think, I didn't really like him before that and thought he was overrated. I agreed with what the scout said who claimed that Gregory has a high bust potential (pun intended). His smoking weed before the Combine only confirmed what I was thinking about him anyway. In the end, it doesn't matter how much physical talent a player has if he's stupid, if he's gonna be a major headache and distraction, frequently be in trouble or suspended all the time, and probably not committed to being the best he can. There's a lot of other talent in the draft, and there are players who aren't as physically talented, who have better character, better work ethics who can be every bit as good or better than that moron.
Agreed, you know the test is coming, you know it's a big stage event, you know you're going to be under a microscope and you still toke on the blunt before the combine? This guy just got red flags out the wazoo.
Yeah he looked like a beast in college but if we drafted him, while I like the talent, I would have similar concerns about his weight and strength going against NFL fatties up front, even before this pot thing surfaced. Bud Dupree is a guy I like if we move back. His athleticism and jump off the ball are impressive, and I may be wrong on this but I believe he's the only guy of the bunch who has showed on tape he can also drop back in zone coverage, if necessary, and handle that responsibility.
He did. Sapp loved football however, and was passionate about being great. I haven't seen anything like that regarding Gregory. I may be mistaken, but I think that Sapp was caught during the season for using pot, not at the Combine. Drug testing wasn't as sophisticated then as it is now.
Gregory has issues obviously, but he has unlimited potential, and if he falls to round two I don't see how the Jets could pass on him. I'd be all over Gregory, if he some how slips to round Two.
Lots of busts had unlimited potential. For me to even consider drafting him, I'd have to have a long, in-depth conversation with him and be assured of his commitment to football. I'd have to do a thorough background check, and let it be known that a clause of some type regarding drug testing and/or getting in trouble would be written into his contract and it would cost him a lot of money if he screwed up. If he took responsibility and said he didn't have a problem with that, then I might take a chance on him in the 3rd or 4th round. Definitely not the 1st or 2nd.
Not necessarily. If we are trading down using Fowler, Beasley, or Ray as bait, those players will be more valuable to other teams that have crossed Gregory off of their wish list.
