No, Teddy was never in his class as a prospect but I can't believe Seattle saw something in Wilson that they knew that no one else did, signed Flynn to a massive contract then wait till round 3 to take him. It sounds contrived to make a point. _
I said I thought Irvin was a reach. At the end of the day, I already said Seattle thought he was the BPA [which we both agree on]. I praise them for the way they got Bobby Wagner and Russel Wilson in back to back rounds. Those aren't risky picks at all. Those are great value picks, especially getting a great linebacker in the 2nd round. I said Flynn was insurance at the QB position [incumbent starter], but I think they had their hearts set on Wilson because they visited him 4 times. I don't know why you would compare a freaking car to the NFL draft where the draft is a complete crap-shoot but that's your prerogative. Smart people tend to make decisions others don't understand - hence the awful draft grade given to the Seahawks by ESPN. 10M guaranteed ain't life savings either in the NFL, let's relax.
I truly believe the Seahawks saw something in him, but they needed insurance in case Wilson wasn't ready or they couldn't draft him. I do understand the Flynn contract, but is 10M in guaranteed cash really a massive contract? The answer to that maybe yes, but it never hampered them from handing out other big contracts. Sanchez recently got 5M guaranteed and Flynn did have the game of his life against the Lions the season before.
whatever man, this is getting out of hand. They hit on a QB, good for them. Maybe someday our Jets will luck into it to and when they do people can argue that they are geniuses and that their failures along the way were all a part of the master plan. Id sign up for that
Oh yeah let me quote this one again - teams that fucking win Superbowls, those are the people that make "outlandish" decisions like that. Meanwhile, we are here playing around with Geno Smith. Kind of sad ...
Geno Smith is just plan B in case they don't land their franchise QB this year.. but they will go defense 1st round.
Hopefully Fowler the pass-rusher drops. I don't mind a Mariota acquisition @ 6. Let's call him plan C though with Fitzpatrick being Plan A. I think we can win games with Fitz.
101, We don't always agree, but imo you're a relatively valuable poster here. But sometimes i wonder if you understand how your arguments come across, or not come across to be more accurate. Sure Seattle did not go Qb in that draft, but they had just signed Flynn to a huge FA contract. It's not like the only move they made that off season was holding their fire until the got Wilson in the third round.
Yeahreally. No offense but this is not a complicated point, not near as complicated as 101 on one of his Obtuse Wednesdays is trying ot make it.
Okay we can agree here, I think if things break right everywhere else and Fitz keeps the turnovers down, the Jets could make it as a wildcard. But let's be clear this is probably this team's ceiling with Fitz. He's a total hold the fort guy, and it is what it is.
Draft Amari Cooper throw him in the slot for a year or two until Marshall is gone and watch Geno evolve!
I think people need to think outside the box that's all. To think Wilson was an afterthought after Flynn got that contract, I don't think that was the case. To visit a QB, that many times in 1 college season ... Like I said ... insurance QB. 10M guaranteed is a decent amount of cash, but look at Sanchez this off-season he got 6M guaranteed for a potential backup.
Yeah because we are so winning games with a rookie Mariota under center [get it?] - Texans were pretty close to making the playoffs w/ Fitzpatrick no?
I don't mind being a WC team with Fitzpatrick - I mean we want to win next season. Fitz HAS to keep those TOs down, I think he can get the ball to our receivers on a consistent basis which is good. I see Fitz as a 1 yr stop-gap at most. Anything to keep Geno Smith out of the fold.
We need someone who can take care of the ball period. With the D Mac has assembled we will have a tough team to play against every week. Geno can't do it.. He shows flashes but flashes is not good enough. Even the Mariota doubters can't deny that Mariota's ball security is elite.
I think sometimes thinking inside the box in hindsight is the rational way to think. To think that Wilson was the primary target and Flynn was the backup plan, and you outbid everyone else in the league and paid the backup plan starter money and you let the primary target slide past you TWICE is just nonsensical. If they visited as many times as you say and were so enamored of him, you don't pass him twice. You trade up in round 1 to take him so nobody else has a chance. It was pure dumb luck and nothing more than that. _
