I'd bet you could probably hit a 'practice' 40-yd. FG, no reason for Kaeding to brick two of them - that wasn't Heinz Field in cold weather. junc, didn't you once give Norwood a pass on that missed 47-yarder because the field was chopped up? I'm not contesting the field conditions which were lousy, but the fact that Norwood was 2-2 on PATs and 1-2 on FGs, that is, he missed that one long one at the end. Led O to 14 pts, K missed 2 makeable kicks during the game which if made would have changed strategy for the Jets and SD the rest of the game. SD had ball for 28 1/2 minutes. Kelly was in SUPER BOWL facing team led by TWO HOF coaches, a team that won a SB 4 years earlier. Had ball for 20 minutes and led O to 19 pts. Led O into FG range for last second kick to win SB yep, exactly the same situation
Kaeding had a history of coming up small in big games, you have to be aware of that going in. Not settle for FGs.
