Pretty much this for me. If we stay put and pick anybody that is not Winston, Mariota, L.Williams, Fowler, Cooper or White, I will be a depressed man.
With the exception of Fowler, I don't really value any other pass rusher in this draft class. My ranking EDGES in this class are in this order: Fowler, Gregory,Dupree, Beasely, and Ray. As another poster mentioned, it really depends on the player available at pick 6. If Gregory or Fowler are off the board, I'd take Cooper, White, or Parker at six.
We can agree to disagree. Beasley is an off the edge, first step, excellent pass rusher, he sorely lacks in the run game and gets put out of the play against bigger stronger o-lineman. Beasley isn't a top 6 player, although I like him better than Ray and Gregory.
Dupree looks like Coples 2.0 which isn't the end of the world but not the best use of a pick. Gregory looks like maybin 2.0.
It's all about BPA and these 6 Guys are the top 6. We'll see how smart Mike M is and if he selects the BPA.
I agree 100%. That's why I am not joining the love fest towards Mac. Want to see how he does in the draft.
Revi ... oh wait lol ... I think we stand no chance at getting Fowler, he's going #2 to Jacksonville.
Before we got Brandon Marshall I wanted Kevin White. Now I would prefer Fowler, Cooper, and then White. I think Cooper is a better fit in the slot than White/Marshall/Decker would be. However,.... under a good OC it won't matter because he'll know how to use his guys. As jet fans we don't know what a good OC is so if we do take a WR I pray that Gailey takes advantage of all these weapons and changes the culture of Jet OC's. Also there's a great chance that 2 of those 3 will be gone in that case the decision is easy. For me there's a big drop off between those 3 guys and someone like Beasley who would still be a good pick.
In this order not including Winston, Mariota or Williams 1. White 2. Fowler 3. Cooper 4. Beasley 5. Dupree 6. Ray
Fair enough, though let me add what concerns I have about Fowler (took some of these from other scouting reports since I'm not an expert by any means, but I did watch a lot of footage of Beasley, Fowler, Gregory and Ray): Inconsistent snap recognition Not good against downhill running teams as can't hold the point of attack Needs A LOT of technique refining in next level Slow on read-and-react Motor was extremely inconsistent. Pursues amazingly when play-side, but backside pursuit is pitiful. Overthinks moves sometimes and makes him not be nearly as effective as he should be. On the positive end for Fowler: Explosive player that uses speed and burst aligning from different spots in the Gators defense to make plays Excellent club-swim move. Favorite move by far. Has experience dropping into LB zones and playing man-to-man on RBs [probably the best at dropping back of every OLB with the exception of maybe Dupree] Excellent ankle and hip flexibility to turn corner and pursue
Do you have an example of any sort of the bolded portion in your negatives list? As a Gators alumni I watched nearly ever snap of Fowler's career and I never once saw a questionable motor. I agree with the rest of your list, and every EDGE in this class IMO has huge question marks, but I don't understand how Fowler's motor was inconsistent.
Good question; I got that criticism from this report, though I haven't seen enough plays of his to confirm or deny your assertion. In any case, this is what the author had to say: "Fowler’s motor is extremely inconsistent. When the play is makeable and he’s playside, Fowler is excellent in pursuit going all out but too many times I was left feeling like he didn’t even attempt to take down the running back. It was consistent in the fact that when he doesn’t think he can make the play he stops trying all together. This is an AWFUL trait. In this play, Fowler is playing backside contain on this WR screen and doesn’t completely pursue and just watches."
I'm one of the Coples believers, so I think it needs to be WR. The Jets are one Marshall injury away from WR being a weakness as opposed to a strength. I believe Marshall is usually pretty durable, but he's getting up there in age and it only takes one bad fall. While Kerley is a mediocre option, I'd be way more comfortable with Decker/Cooper/Kerley than I would Decker/Kerley/Owasu
We drafted 3 WR last year; we have 2 left on the roster from that group, and I know what most probably won't have any faith in Shaq or Enunwa, but there's a chance Bowles and/or Mac seems something in them. I would certainly love Cooper on this team, but you have to admit that our WR depth is much deeper than our OLB depth. Especially when it comes to young depth. Also, don't forget Amaro. Another receiving option whether or not we draft WRs.
I did forget Amaro. He should absolutely contribute. I disagree with most of you wrote. Evans/Enunwa aren't depth. They are complete question marks, that isn't depth. Could they end up being solid players, sure. But right now they are at the very end of the depth chart, and in no way prove we're deeper at WR than OLB. Depth is having talented players, that are able to step up when starters inevitably get hurt. If anything, I consider IK to be a depth player. In limited action he actually made a decent impact. Enunwa wasn't even good enough to get picked up by another team. If he can't make the Jets poor WR group last year, I'm not sure he qualifies as depth. I think WR is absolutely the way to go, as long as the value is there and he's the BPA.
Even if Coples finally figures out how to play to his potential we need someone opposite of him. Pace/Babin can only do so much.
Jets were sixth in sacks last year with the worst secondary in football. Obviously 1st would be nice, but with this improved secondary we'll jump up in sacks this season.
Receivers typically take 3ish years to reach their full potential. The best position to put them in is one in which they aren't expected to produce like a 1 immediately. The Jets can offer that. Barring the opportunity to snag Fowler, which I don't think the Jets will get, sign me up for Cooper, and if neither of them then White.
