I thought so too when he used the word "probably". If Smith after playing for two years in the NFL is only "probably way ahead" of Mariota what does that say?
I would disagree with this comment if the Jets CS didn't immediately play damage control and state that Geno is the "at the moment" starter. I agree that he should shut his mouth and hide from the media, but he won't. There's no getting around it, Woody Johnson is a complete fool
Sure I'm joking... Thing is that drives me crazy about Geno is that you see flashes of brilliance (in Miami both years) and then you see a turnover robot that seems overwhelmed by a pro D
I think That Woody way of saying we are in a win now mod. Yes Geno would be the best choice now and he should be since in been in NFL 2 years.
yeah… the inconsistency is maddening. it makes me think he's backup quality at best if or until that Geno who runs the jets down the field vs ATL in the clutch is the norm and the geno who throws 3 picks in a row stops showing up. my betting money is on Smith starting week 1, him playing well at first then dropping of and Fitz taking over by december. but I would LOVE to be wrong, my hope of all hopes is that he's caught up with the game and a new O and good weapons revitalizes him.
You are aware that Sanchez was drafted under the old CBA rules, right? You know way back when "...you used to have to commit so much money that you couldnt move on for 4 or 5 years".
Under the current CBA rookie scale you should if you have half a brain, especially in the case of the Jets this year who filled most if not all of their immediate needs in FA.
I'll take Geno over Mariota. Now, tomorrow, next year... Give it a rest. The more we talk about it doesn't alter who we draft. If Mariota isn't taken by the Jets, all these discussion will have been a waste of time. And you don't throw darts at the wall under ANY CBA. Unless you enjoy being unemployed.
One should be less concerned about Geno's TOs but more concerned about his lack of TD passes. TOs are expected from a young QB. However, 12 then 13 TDs in 2 seasons while taking virtually every snap shows an inability to make game winning type plays.
Didn't WAS draft RGIII and Cousins in the same draft? There was a time not too long ago when everyone thought that was a brilliant move on their part.
Whatever happens, let's not make the same mistake again. Geno loves to come out of nowhere for last game of the year Miami games. What happened in Miami was a fluke. We know who Geno is...and he's not that. Everyone fell for it last time, let's not again.
So using Woody's logic which seems a lot of posters agree with this means Geno is ahead of Derek Carr, Teddy Bridgewater, Zach Mettenberger and Jameis Winston.
This. Geno can't take care of the ball and with a hard nosed defensive coach in Bowles he won't last long. Mariota takes care of the ball better than any prospect I have ever seen... Including Luck when he came out. I know that is an attribute they are looking for to be able to succeed.
ill say you are probably absolutely correct and i am probably absolutely incorrect. for some reason i dont remember us being completely screwed by his original contract, although we probably were.
