he couldn't lead his offense to more points than those other QBs.

I am not giving him the excuse b/c he played through it and he built his career on playing through pain.

Chad took a 1 win team and won 11, he was MUCH better than Favre. Maybe he doesn't stay healthy here? but assuming he would have we easily win that division.

No issue w/ frustrations of Chad getting hurt but to bring in a 1 year guy didn't make a lot of sense and it cost us a rare div title.

The Jets didnt bring in Favre for 1 year. He retired and then went to Minnesota. The Jets wanted him, Favre wanted to go to Minnesota. The Jets let him go rather then force the issue because they fired their HC and were moving in a different direction. But they wanted Favre back.

The NFL is different year to year. Just because you win 1 game one year doesnt mean thats what you are. A lot has to do with coaching, players quitting on the season and team. Sure give Chad credit, he played great for them (in basically his last year in the league) and helped them get to the playoffs. But you cant give him all the credit for going 11-5 just like you dont give Favre the credit for the Jets being at 8-3. Chad was much better then Favre in 2008, but thats 1 year. Favre is the better player. You always go with the better player unless you have a stable situation already in place at QB, which the Jets didnt because of lingering injury concerns, they even sat Chad in 07 for Clemens to see what they had in him.

They wanted to move on from him. They did it a year early. But better a year early, then a year late.

Why would anyone want to pretend to be a jets fan? Let's be honest

That's a good question and I am not the person that can answer it.

If the Chargers want the No. 6 pick for Phillip Rivers I would do that in a heart beat (if that's all they want). That's essentially trading Marcus Mariota for Phillip Rivers which is an absolute steal considering Mariota could be a bust.

Haha, don't worry, I give plenty of snark in a lot of my replies! And I don't always own up to my many mistakes. But thanks for the kind words regardless!

when they acquired him they knew more than likely it was a 1 year thing. Favre did NOT want to play here, he was forced to. this was a guy helping GB opponents prepare for GB rather than learning his new playbook.

I don't give Chad all the credit but he was the difference in Miami. Notice how many winning seasons they had the few years before him and since then?

You don't go w/ the "better player" when that better player would have to learn a new system for the first time in 15 years, that better player didn't want to be here and that better player was a big time choker.

I get being tired of Chad's injuries but the Favre move handed Miami a good QB and a division title while taking it from us.

it absolutely amazes me how well Jet fans treat Favre and how they rash Sanchez when Sanchez did all he could to win and actually did win here while Favre had no interest playing for us and mailed it in costing us a chance at a special season. this is why we deserve 2014.

The Chargers would be foolish to trade Rivers and likely won't. It's hilarious to see Jets fans who wouldn't want him though. You guys crack me up.

You guys who are overeager, impatient and foolishly impetuous crack me up. In spite of adding the 31 year-old Marshall, the 31 year-old Revis and 30 year-old Cro, this team is not ready to go "all in". If that is truly Mac's plan, then he's a idiot and won't be here long. He has a rookie HC who will be coaching in a new conference, a CS working together for the first time, new systems being installed, a LOT of new players who have to get used to each other, HUGE question marks on the OL even if he added Rivers, ancient OLBs and a lack of depth at both WR and RB.

That doesn't even take into consideration the fact that just a year or two ago, Rivers was awful or if we trade for him, we won't be able to add a young stud at OLB, WR, or likely find Brick's replacement in the draft. It also doesn't take into consideration that maybe Mac is operating too much like the Washington Redskins of a few years ago trading away draft picks for older vets. We all know how that worked out. A lot of you guys are acting like 10 year-old fans who know nothing about the game and who let their excitement and emotion rule the day. You all should know better.

I'm excited as anyone about the potential of this new regime and team, but Rome wasn't built in a day. Someone has to try to keep this site grounded between the darksiders and those of you who have momentarily lost their minds in excitement.

Your points are well taken. On the age of those key players and the fact that for the most part good franchises like the Packers and Steelers don't usually build on free agency. They build via the draft and UFAs. But Revis is an exception. Marshall could be an exception because of his talent. And Rivers is a proven franchise Qb. These are very hard to come by and develop on your own. I think for the most part use free agency to fill in the gaps (with cheaper proven vets who can play a role) and not grossly overspend for star players and still lose like as you noted, the Redskins. If Rivers is available I'd be interested if the price is right. And I'd be willing to pay him at least 15 mil per season in salary. I'd personally pick him up at the airport and show him the beautiful areas of New Jersey (not the oil refineries).

Rivers is a proven #s guy. He's not a proven winner. in a weak division he had #1 O and #1 D and failed to make playoffs in 2010.

I'm hoping that Mac is making these moves are just to restore some credibility and respect to the Jets in the NFL, to show the fans that he intends to build a winner, and make us immediately competitive. If so, then I applaud his moves. If OTOH he is arrogant and delusional enough to think he can go all in with this team and challenge for the Lombardi Trophy this year or next, then I am going to want him gone and soon. Based on everything I've read about this guy, I don't think the latter is the case, but rather the former. He has a solid football background and has spent his time in scouting and personnel. If anyone should know that you don't build a winner ala the Redskins, it should be Mac. I can't see the Chargers trading Rivers or the Jets being able to fit him in under the cap without having to cut some players.

All the beautiful areas of NJ that I know of (NW Jersey, the Jersey shore and south Jersey) are not close to the Meadowlands imo. I'm not sure he'd want to live that far away from their facility and stadium.

I have no problem drafting Mariota. The other guys like Hundley I'm not impressed with. I'd take Hundley later not sooner if on the board but not in the first three rounds. I think Rivers is a very good Qb although as you noted he has had mediocre seasons but for the most part he's had a good career and is a proven franchise Qb. Mac has spent a good portion of our cap space esp on Dbs. Maybe they thought we needed a complete rebuild or maybe it was due to the criticism last year for not signing better corners. Maybe both. With Rivers though we could have an outside chance to make the playoffs. He took marginal teams when he was with SD to the playoffs. Teams not actually better in talent than the Jets in 2015.

If you exchanged first round picks (our 6th for their 17th) for Rivers it's the equivalent of giving them an extra first round draft pick like around 28. To me fair compensation. But if it took another pick like a 3rd rounder (in 2016) to get it done I'd do it if they can sign him.

88-56 career record as starter (.611 percentage)

His 88 wins as a starter has him 28th place. No, not 28th in the league or even among active QBs, 28th place in wins in the entire history of the NFL as a starting QB.

    20 4th quarter comebacks and 23 game-winning drives.

In his 9 years as a starter he has 4 division titles and 5 total playoff appearances with only 1 non-winning season.

But- yeah he's not a proven winner or anything. Just a numbers guy.

You can take your impatient comment and shove it. This is a win now league and the jets haven't won dick since 1969. The last time the Jets drafted and groomed a qb worthy of franchise qb status was 15 years ago and that was ended very quickly due to injuries. Franchise qbs are extremely difficult to draft. Just because you may think there is one in this draft doesn’t mean there is.

The offseason moves made so far have absolutely nothing to do with my position on Rivers. If you have a chance to trade for a franchise qb and you don't have one you do it. I don't know if you've noticed but having a franchise qb puts you into title contetion.

It's hilarious that you think you're some wise expert and look down your nose at others and think they're children because you wouldn't want to trade for a franchise qb. Nice to know you think so highly of yourself. Congrats on that.

Unfortunately for us the Chargers probably aren't foolish enough to trade away a franchise qb for a chance at a younger one.

in a weak division on loaded teams. know how many playoff games he has started and finished and won? THREE.

how many 4th qtr comebacks/GW drives in postseason? ONE, when he led them ALL THE WAY BACK from 3 points down in the 4th qtr when his D/STs set him up at the Indy 38 to start that game tying drive to get game to OT.

    he's a #s guy, nothing more.
