Much as I loved Chad, I didn't think he had a SB left in him at that 2008 stage of his career either and that's not even considering the 4 INTs he had in Miami's playoff loss to the Ravens because Baltimore was that much better than Miami (and a Jets team as well even with Chad at QB). And fwiw, division champ Miami squeaked into the playoffs that year on the 4th tiebraker. Beyond that, I don't want either $$ guy. Grab Mariota if he's there at #6 and see what you have. "Fitz the 'meh" to hold the fort until then. Geno? whatever....
WHile I agree with you here, I do recall the number of rabid Chad fans who refused to acknowledge he could not stay on the field enogh. Add in that Miami's loss in the playoffs that year was a truly awful performance, and they have not been back since. But on the Favre thing, I do think the signing gave the FO cover to get rid of Chad. it served a usefu purpose other than merely geting a top Qb on the team for one season.
he made his career playing through pain, he doesn't get that excuse when things don't go well. a QB on a good team can be a difference maker. we had a good team around the QB(not great but good), we should have easily won that division but we didn't even make the playoffs. we beat the Cassell led Pats wow! needing OT to do it b/c he led us to 7 pts in the 3rd and 4th qtrs. the Ten win was big at the time and he played well but he was erratic the entire year outside of a few games. if Chad is our QB we easily win that division but Jet fans wanted fantasy #s and we got them. Favre was a top QB(but overrated) most of his career, he was not a top QB in 2008 and he killed our chances and got a coach fired. he won a div title, we only have 4 of them in our history so to say he did nothing isn't fair. since Brady became the starter in NE only Chad has a div title besides Brady.
did he play? then he gets evaluated on how he played. his arm looked fine to me, it was his decision making that killed us like it had all year.
Why is getting rivers even a debate? You're trading for the best QB to ever put on a jets uniform since Joe Namath over a potential bust/under achiever
I am not used to people saying hey you know what i might not have been 100 percent correct. It makes me wish i wasnt so snarky in my reply to your original post. You are a rarity on a fan forum.. A reasonable human being. Cheers
I agree that Rivers could bust or under achieve here. But why would you suggest trading for Joe Namath?
This might sound crazy; but I'd love to have a quarterback who puts up the stats that Phillip Rivers does, but I don't want Phillip Rivers. He just has a face that you want to punch. It would be hard to root for him.
So you want a QB that looks good? As one of the BR writers said " you want a Player with Boyish handsome looks"?
Part of me wants to think that Rivers would be just enough to put a solid receiving core and running game plus a very dangerous looking defense over the top to make the Jets a SB contender, another part of me doesn't want any part of Rivers jerkoff personality, his jerkoff bolo ties, his jerkoff sidearm throws or the jerkoff faces he makes on the sidelines
Yes, but the true "real men of genius" award that season went to the braintrust of Mangenius/Shotty. Go ahead and "defend" them to maintain your Golden Bryan Cox Trophy, but that was the absolute shittiest game planning & play calling I have EVER seen and is why he got fired. oh, back to Rivers............. he's not coming here, so can this thread
The Jets sure can trade for him, and that's why it's a discussion. He's in the last year of his deal and would need to sign a new contract before any realistic trade was finalized, and there are definitely ways to structure it so his his don't affect this year and don't affect next year too badly. The problem is that to make it worth it for them the Jets would probably have to draft Mariota (assuming he falls) and then trade him after the fact, and that would send half the fanbase into suicide mode
Favre doesnt play against opposing QB's. He plays against their defenses. Matt Cassell being the QB means absolutely nothing. That's not who Favre goes up against. Your not giving him the excuse of injury because it doesnt make your point. I personally dont use injuries as an excuse either if the players suits up and plays. But you have to be realistic when looking back on things and why they didnt work out. Favre was hurt, that isnt debatable. You dont know if we win the division with Chad. Thats an example of you throwing out hypothetical situations and acting like they're facts. We dont know what the Jets do with Chad. We dont know what happens to Favre if the Jets dont get him. Maybe he ends in Miami and they still win with him instead...who knows. Favre was a top QB most of his career. You can end it there. Chad winning the division at 9-7 in 2002 means nothing when talking about 2008. I never said he did nothing. Chad was a good QB for us, but he was hurt a lot. Moving on from him was not a bad idea.
