So the 6 and a 4th for chargers first and rivers and you say no then yes? What I want is a qb who can throw a football. We don't presently have one that presents any upside. We have however traded for one that has limited downside. But limited sucking is what you want, so let's not do it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
we would have been 10-1 if Favre was good, he held us back. had a couple of good games and that was it, he killed us that year and he built his career on playing through pain so the injury was not an excuse. Chad took a 1 win team and won 11 and a div title that year while we had the much more talented team and couldn't even get to the playoffs despite an easy sched and no Brady. it was an awful idea to go after Favre and it cost us a rare div title and a SB chance.
he did very little for us that year other than bring excitement. he was outdueled at home by Matt Cassell in Cassell's first start since HS. he was outdueled by Jamarcus Russell. he tried to throw away other games like Cincy and KC. he was not the reason we were 8-3, he was the reason we missed the playoffs.
The Jets and Dolphins had practically the SAME schedule that year. If anything, the dolphins had an easier schedule. So couldn't we just as easily say that Pennington only had 1 playoff appearance after he was cut here and it was in a year he benefitted from a weak schedule and Brady being out? after he made the playoffs and lost terribly he didn't do anything in his career
I shouldve been more specific. I mean team as a whole. I dont remember any of San Diegos defenses being as good as ours should be this year. Youre right about that offense though
Miami had an easy sched too, al of the AFCE teams did but Miami took advantage while we finished behind a team that won one game the year before and a team led by Matt Cassell. Chad did benefit from Brady being out and a weak sched but he took a one win team and led them to 11 wins and the div title.
that 14-2 season they picked off Tom Brady 3 times and the O couldn't do enough. did they have Bal '0 or TB '02 D's? NO but they had good Ds, how many teams have won w/ GREAT D in the past 15 years? not many.
so we made the right decision getting rid of a guy who only had one decent season after he left - - in a year he benefitted primarily from a weak schedule and Brady's injury.
Playing through pain doesnt mean injuries dont effect players performances lol. Be realistic. You do this a lot. You say certain players didnt get their teams to a certain record when it supports your side of the argument by saying "the Jets were 8-3, not Favre", and then you do a complete turnaround and say that a player is responsible for that teams record if it does support your argument. Favre was erratic, but had the team at 8-3 and beat the Patriots and the undefeated Titans in their buildings before getting hurt. Just because he was known as a guy who played through injuries doesnt mean the injury doesnt hurt his overall play. And once again, you judge the decision, you dont just look at the end result and then call it good or bad. I agree the Jets undervalued Chad, but Favre was a top QB. It's never a bad idea to get a top QB unless you have a QB you feel really confident about, which the Jets clearly didnt with Chad. He was hurt a lot, and his play declined because of it. He went to Miami and had one big year (kudos to him) before finally succumbing to his injury problems. And in regards to this topic, Chad was much better then what we have now with Fitz and Geno. The point is, when you bring in good veteran players like this at high salaries, you shouldnt just hand the team off to a QB who is below average, or can maybe win you enough games to sneak into the playoffs if things break right.
It'd feel kinda like when the Yanks signed Jack Clark, i.e. when they really didn't have a long-term plan. Maccagnan doesn't strike me as that type of GM. As for Rivers - some numbers, maybe a few more wins but that's about it in the long run..
I'm not talking about Favre here. they could've cut Pennington for anyone. I'm simply saying that Pennington didn't do anything after he left here except benefit from a weak schedule one year before falling apart... thus it was a good decision to move on.
They had 2 good pass-rushers in Roid-Merriman and Phillips - Merriman had like 15 sacks that yr. That was before Cro had that 10 interception season. As a whole, today that team was really good. They should've had at least 1 ring.
That would work. I always thought that Rivers was pretty good...and that Gates played a large part in that. The Chargers were hampered by some bad luck and some bad special teams play when they were stacked in other areas.
Ok so then you actually would give up nothing and think rivers sucks? If our qb sucks and you wouldn't make a deal for rivers then you then are also saying he sucks? You've got me so lost Idk Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
