never got close to a SB. the closest he got was after he got hurt and his backup led them to AFC Championship game. he's not Orton but he's not Brady either and people on here are pretending like he is an elite QB that is guaranteed to bring us to a SB. I don't care about meaningless fantasy #s in a weak division. I care how a QB makes plays to help his team win big games. Rivers is a great fantasy guy, it's those pesky real life big games that get in the way.
Best way to describe them. Also lets not forget about the onside kick. That team generated a lot of turnovers.
It doesnt matter if he never got close to a SB. Thats not how you judge a player. Are you saying he has to get close to a SB before you'd be interested in acquiring a player with his skill set? So maybe if he goes out and gets to a title game this year, you'd be interested in acquiring him next year? Cause then he proved himself a little more to you? I'm not saying he's Brady, but acting like he isnt one of the better QB's in this league is foolish. You dont judge a guy on 9 games, a bunch of which he played well in.
To me Rivers makes the Jets serious playoff contenders. Believe me AFC East teams don't want him on the Jets. It would be a wake up call for Belichick, Tanny and Rex.
It's how I judge QBs, I judge on what I think they should do w/ the talent around them. one of the better QBs in this league means nothing. he's played well in MAYBE 2-3 game and that is being very generous.
Obviously he'd make us better but would he make us contenders? is our goal to just get to the playoffs? if it is go get him but if we have larger goals than that we should look elsewhere.
Rivers handed us the game, or their kicker handed us the game. Exactly why I'm saying your argument is shaky at best specifically in two games vs two different opponents without taking the game itself into account. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rivers handed us the game. the K missed 2 makeable kicks- that happens. SD's O couldn't do anything and their D was playing great. what does Rivers do? throws one of the worst passes you will ever see b/c he panicked in his EZ and set up the TD that gave us our first lead. Our QB made plays to win that game, SDs made plays to lose.
It's subjective entirely dude. Your agenda is obvious when you say "the kicker missed two makeable kicks it happens". No, it doesn't. And if it didn't we wouldn't be having this conversation. Rivers put them in a position to win and their kicker choked. Our defense wAs smothering and our offense not so much. Your point is truly lost on deaf ears honestly . I don't think this is a way to evaluate a qb or asses their fit and impact on a new team. But to each their own. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
pretty much al the stuff we debate on here is subjective. you have your view and I have mine. Our D was smothering b/c the QB stunk. a week later against another choker our D got lit up and Revis took out their best receiver.
That same d of San Diego you are loving gave up a long td run to shonn Greene to seal the game, but let's not talk about that. Our d was smothering bc it matched up very well and was in fact smothering. The next week we were screwed bc our running backs were rendered useless and relied on our run game to compete .... We also had to put drew Coleman in a spotlight bc of an injury to a critical cb of ours. So again this is why I'm saying making blanket statements about a qbs career and potential for on a new roster are truly useless Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm not 100% backing Junc's position...but he's got a point. I'm not so sure Rivers is a good fit in NY. He can put up some flashy numbers and gutsy games...but he has a tendency to come up short late in the season. I'll worry about the why when he becomes a Jet.
Fair. Problem is the roster philosophy in San Diego is entirely entirely different than ny. Phillip rivers is more than enough to make the jets a contender Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
they did and the Indy D allowed an 80 yard TD to as rookie QB who you guys all think sucked. bad plays happen but despite that they allowed just 17 pts and 7 came from a drive starting inside the SD 15. we led 17-6 the next week, we led in the 3rd qtr. yes, we lost the great Lito Sheppard and Donald Strickland. who is the guy in this picture and can you name the game? how did we win at NE a year later w/ him playing?
Ok I'm with Ya. Let's forget Coleman gave up a td before halftime that changed the colts game bc he sacked Brady a year later. Philip rivers doesn't fit here bc of 5 years ago. I'm so on board especially since we have an upcoming qb already on the roster to compliment our 30 year old free agent investments . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
you want to give away the store and destroy our cap for a good QB that won't elevate this team? you can think that all you want and I will think what I want to think. Reality backs my position though.
Except he will elevate this team and how do you know what they want Your version of reality is questionable at best to be honest. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
