Ha, I don't know about Weeden but that description fits Young and Tebow perfectly

Cleveland alone has (it seems) almost every year drafted a Qb in the first round and some like Colt McCoy later like the 3rd. They never stick with a guy even though McCoy didn't play that badly. So to me it's not a great strategy to keep changing Qb every year and using your picks up plus breaking in a rookie or young player. I'd rather buy a Qb.

You think Tebow has talent? Vince Young works - though I think he was a bit immature. I think Brady Quinn definitely belongs in that conversation.

Yes Tebow has plenty of talent, just no football IQ to be an NFL QB. That's what makes an NFL bust

The more I looked into it, I agree with you. My head's in the clouds if I think it would take anything less, especially considering the Bradford offer, the Cutler trade to Chicago, the Palmer trade to Oakland, etc.

What has Cleveland done right, except maybe for hiring Pettine? If you draft a QB, you have to have the right CS and systems in place to nurture and develop that QB and you have to have patience. You also need to have a vet on hand to help mentor and maybe play while the kid learns. Cleveland has been an epic fail at almost every level of their organization. They change GMs and HCs like most people change underwear. That doesn't lead to continuity or stability.

I don't think Tebow was all that talented IMO - College Football is such a different game, slower / weaker players. Tebow at the QB position was able to impose his will on his opponents. If not for that freaking throw against Pittsburgh - Tebow would've been out of the league much quicker.

Young just wasn't immature, but depressed and also not very intelligent.

How do u know we won't get to the Super Bowl?

And the reason is they want to rebuild. Which he may know and why he wants to play out his final year. I am not for one second buying LA as a reason.

Tebow is plenty talented just not at NFL QB. just because he doesn't translate to NFL QB doesn't mean he is untalented, I'd say the same thing for Brad Smith and Julian Edelman both of whom were good QBs at the college level but had talents that translated better to different positions, I think our definitions of talent aren't really the same

I have seen him his entire career playing w/ SB caliber teams. If he ever gets to one I'll be very surprised, to bank on a that happening w/ our team and Rivers at the end of his career would be a little crazy.

Pettine might not last long. They also don't keep their coaches or GMs under this owner much more than a season or two. There were on and off the field problems with Cleveland esp when the GM was accused of trying to make phone calls to the sidelines during games and supposedly give instructions to the Qbs. Farmer pleaded guilty and apologized for it but some think he was just trying to cover for the owner who was the one really behind all of it.

Yep, you're right. Pettine deserves better than that nuthouse in Cleveland. Must be something in the water there. After all, it produce George Steinbrenner. LOL

The owner is pretty much a disaster. He's been indicted etc. for illegal activities with his company (and I think had to pay a huge settlement). I think the NFL would love to get rid of him. Probably he wants to be overly involved and not allow the professionals to run the team. Even to the extent that he wants to send in plays and advice during games. Pettine did a good job for the first half of the season but they fell hard the second half. It looked for a while like they might make the p layoffs.

When did he ever have an elite defense to support his offensive weapons? When has offense won a championship in recently memory without the support of a tremendous defense?

I'd argue sd had the wrong formula as opposed to rivers not being capable of winning. Id also suggest rivers chances go up with our defense and formidable passing options.

you don't need an elite D to win SBs, Brady certainly didn't have one last year and has never really had one. Eli didn't have one, Flacco didn't have on, Brees didn't have one, Peyton didn't have one, etc... what elite Ds has he lost to in postseason? the closest was probably ours and our D was very good but far from great and he was awful that day.

the only title game he made SD made AFTER Rivers got hurt and his backup led them to GW TD drive.

Brady had a defense that was well above average against the pass led by Revis browner and McCourty
Eli had an elite pass rush
Flacco had a d playing at an incredible level spurred by Ray Lewis announcing retirement.
    Peyton's defense won the game
    Brees is the outlier

Look at the results. Teams that win have won in large part w strong to elite defenses. The purely offensive teams fall short more often than not.

he had an elite defender in Revis.

Eli's D's played great in those runs but they were not considered elite defenses

Flacco's D allowed 31 pts in the SB, this was not the 2000 Ravens.

Peyton's D played great in that run and keyed it but they were not considered elite.

Rivers has had some very good Ds. he took over a young, extremely talented team that was set up to compete for SBs and they made just 1 title game- again after Rivers got hurt.
