There's no way I would give up the No.6 pick for Jimmy Leonhard.

    Retarded is a medical term.

How much of a difference does five years make? 28 vs 33? I am no expert. but QBs are not RBs or other positions. Are they like pitchers in baseball? Not sure they are throwing that much.

Because the team has had so much success without that qb.

Pretty sure most guys over 40 here can answer that question.... ha.
5 years to a pro athlete is like 10 to us. You're right, they're not like baseball pitchers. They get driven into the ground by 300lb men

That being said, I'd be willing to swap 1sts for him..... then use that later 1st pick on the best available O-lineman. Pure Pipe dream though, as he's not going to want to come here. I wouldn't be surprised if he retires

This is possible , but difficult. It would have to be a draft day deal because Mariota still would need to be there at 6, which of course is uncertain before the draft. The difficulty would be that the Jets would need assurance of an extension - I don't see how that could happen during the draft. Unlike many of the posters here, who I think are just being hopeful Jets fans, I think it would be straight up 6 for Rivers. The early round 2 would then be spent on OL.

He's obviously better than anything we have but he's been one of the most overrated QBs in the league for a long time now. Great #s guy though so that should make everyone happy.

The real question is, is he better than Sanchez? There is only one right answer.

better #s guy, wouldn't want him QBing my team in a big game. It's been proven he is not a big game player.

Is Rivers a better QB than Sanchez?

better #s guy, I wouldn't want Philip Rivers as my QB.

played on more talented teams in weaker division yet has had less playoff success than Mark.

still amazed the same people who trash the jets for having "no qb" are the same people 'raising concerns" about Philip rivers and drew brees.

had the jets not just compiled one of the best secondaries in the nfl to go with one of the best d lines in the NFL while trading for a 30 year old #1 WR I might agree on passing..

But we have the parts...Just need the cog.

I could be wrong, but imo 5 years makes a huge difference. I think that one could reasonably expect good health and quality play up through 32 or 33. I'm not sure that one can reasobably "expect" that after that age. One can hope for it, and some QBs are able to play well into their mid and late 30s, but not all. In addition, if the poster is correct who said that QBs can play at a high level until 36 or 37, then getting him at 28 would give you 8-9 years with him at the helm. With a 33 year-old, that only gives you 3-4 years. I'm not trading away an opportunity to take a potential franchise QB who could be with my team for 12-15 years for 3-4 years of an older QB, especially Rivers. Manning at 33 or Brees at 33, I probably would, but not Rivers. Rivers is a very good QB, but he is not on the level of Manning or Brees, and he has had a tendency to self destruct at times and not play well for long stretches. It's just too risky imo with him at his age. I'd rather stay put and take Fowler, Cooper or White and roll with Fitz and Geno than trade for Rivers.

it's a lot to give up and pay for an older QB especially one that is nothing more than #s guy. Brees is older but at least he has stepped up in big games. For a year or 2 a Brees would be worth it rather than more years w/ Rivers putting up great fantasy #s and melting in a big spot. he couldn't do it w/ more talent and less pressure in SD but he's going to come here and lead us to a SB?

I don't know, obviously he is better than what we have but to give up picks and a huge deal to still not get to a SB doesn't make me want to do it. there's a reason he may be on the block.
