There is some logic in an illogical way about changing this thread from Rivers to our o-line. They are saying don't sign him because the o-line stinks. But these people are basically negative and kill joys and can't let us dream. Besides our o-line is good enough for him!

Winters would be the 2nd best Olineman on the Chargers after Hardwock went down. I think rivers played with like 5 Centers this year? Jesus Christ the injuries hit them hard.

Wouldn't it be ironic if rivers and Eli played in the same stadium? It would almost be fitting.

Rivers isn't Manning, Brady or Brees. I disagree that QBs have until 37/38 before their play drops off. Besides, you're trading a potential franchise QB who could be with your team for 10-15 years (if you're correct about their play not falling off until 37 or so), for one who is already 33 and you might get 4 good years, or you might get 2-3 injury-filled and average years. I think trading the #6 pick for Rivers or Brees would be a HUGE mistake. This team isn't ready to go "all in," and trading for one of those 2 QBs says that they're going for broke.

But this potential franchise QB we always draft is never developed. When was the last time we developed a franchise QB?

Look the guy is a proven franchise QB. You should be able to just plug him in although I'm sure that Gailey would hopefully adapt the offense to suit Rivers. You don't give up your overall 6 for him. Because you get back their 17. Which is a good trade. Be prepared to pay him at least 60 mil over 4 years with half of it guaranteed. If that can't get it done then no deal.

I'm not disputing that he's a quality QB, I just don't like his age. If he was 28, I'd do it in a NY minute, but not for a 33 year-old QB. No how, no way.

If he was 28 this wouldn't even be a conversation. This purely will depend on ones opinion of Mariota. If you feel he will bust, as I do, it's a no brainier.

I understand that if you think Mariota would bust. It's just mind boggling to me that anyone that knows anything about football could think that Mariota will bust. It's just not who he is. He is too talented and has too high a football IQ. Those types do NOT bust. I can understand people not wanting to wait a year or two for him to develop. I can understand people thinking he may not wind up being a franchise QB because of playing in the spread, but I cannot for the life of me fathom anyone thinking he will bust. I'm sorry, but that's just the worst reasoning or analysis on a player that I've ever heard on a Jets site in over 15 years of posting and reading on various sites. SMH

He has the highest floor of any top QB prospect not named Andrew Luck I can recall in a very long time.

His bust quotient is zero. Unless he pulls an Ernie Davis, he'll be in the league for 15 years.

Bust quotient zero. If it's true (and it can't be: how do we know) then take him and fuck Rivers. The thing is: we know Rivers can play.

This is a board about opinions, not certitudes.

    Mariota's bust quotient is zero.

"It's not who he is" lol. He may need more than a year or two. In a certain system sure he can survive but if put in the wrong system he's doomed.

Perhaps bc the guy has never called a play in a huddle and there's plenty to lend to a qb who has the option to run tends to lean on that when they jump to the next level. There's plenty of reasoning. Reading your post you clearly have an affinity for the guy. I get that. But to say he's bust proof is right there the craziest thing I've ever read.

There's seems to be no middle ground here, when it comes to Mariota. ..

There isn't. And I think bc the middle ground is what scares jets fans most. Another 4 years of "but what if" flashes of goodness would drive us mad.

Jets fans are either all in or all out on Mariota.

Listen despite what I may think if the jets draft him it's bc their scouts believe he's the guy and if they do then I'll be all in.

Yup. He was as close to bust proof as they come. Ryan leaf was also bust proof, and Tom Brady was passed over 5 times.

Despite what we all see or think truth is when it comes to qb you just don't know and it takes the right set of circumstances and the right timing for it to truly pan out.
