It's looking more and more like we will end up with one of the elite pass rushing prospects in the first round, especially if we stay at #6. Reports have the Skins taking Mariota if he falls to #5, and it sounds like Mac and Bowles are not crazy about him anyway, even if he slips to us. And #6 is probably too high for a RB or one of the OT prospects. So, that leaves OLB/DE, and there are some good ones. Most likely Fowler will be gone, so it will likely come down to Gregory, Beasley, or Ray. So who would you prefer among those guys? (again, assuming they stay at #6 and draft one of those guys).
I like Gregory's size better than Beasley so Id probably go with him. Beasley looks way to small to be a dominant player but lots of people have him as the best pass rusher in the draft. I just dont see it. Id stay far far away from Shane Ray. But if these are the best options and Cooper is gone Id hope we trade back.
Not at #6, trade down get another pick then get a pass rusher. Its a 50/50 shot they pan out so why not get two guys, better odds. Honestly, for the old Jets staff it was a 25% change they might pan out. Glad to have a scouting guy as a GM, lets just see what he can do.
I like Beasley a lot but he's the same height (6'3") and 15lbs lighter than Fowler They are both around what I'd consider above average size for NFL pass rushers and around average to below average for elite pass rushers. You throw that Huge term around way too much
I mean, we can hope Fowler slips to 6, which isn't crazy. But if not, I think I like Beasley most out of those 3
A trade down is almost always preferable, but it often isn't available. What makes a pass rusher much different than any other position in terms of odds of panning out?
Last mock I looked at had the QBs going 1 &2, Fowler at #3, White at #4 with Beasley, Gregory, and Ray going off the board at 6,7, and 8 respectively. If that is the marching order, how exactly do we trade down and still get our guy?
I am very frustrated that I don't know how much of a dropoff there is between the top four guys and Dupree (or others such as Eli Harold, Daniel Hunter, etc.). Before this point I wanted to trade down so we could get 2-4 good players instead of one. Now I am worried that passing up on Beasley or Fowler at #6 could be a huge mistake.
I want the Jets to take Cooper and move back into the late 1st and take Dupree. He may not make it to round 2.
It would be. I just hope we don't take Randy Gregory. Way too lanky and not explosive on the Line Beasley is going to be a bonfire stud as well as fowler
Shane Ray. We have a plethora of run stoppers and are in dire need of a true pass rushing specialist. With our secondary making the qb's hold the ball for just a second longer he will be a monster in this defense.
Fan of both, but leaning towards Gregory as he can drop back into coverage. Whereas Beasley couldn't cover himself with a blanket.
Please tell us source that Mac and Bowles are not crazy about MM?? Last I heard Mac not tipping his hand. Plus he will work out 3/28 for Jets. This franchise will suck mediocrity unless we make the move get a young QB or franchise QB like Rivers
