Wuuuut. Mariota has never ran a pro style offense in his life. Oregon rarely incorporates Pro style passing concepts unlike FSU. Winston Is the Best QB prospect since Luck, he reminds me more of Donovan McNabb
So it's ok for you to homer over Mariota, who's done nothing except look like Kellen Moore in college, but it's blasphemy for me to think he's a career backup? Got it. Thanks for the lesson.
Winston was/is NOT a better prospect than Teddy Bridgewater... the Jameis Winston "hype" is becoming absurd.
He actually is. What hype? Dude is a proven Winner, Extremely High IQ, plays in a pro style offense etc. He's legit
All he has over Teddy Bridgewater is a stronger arm... other than that Teddy was superior to Winston in every way possible. I never said Winston wasn't "legit". He's a very good prospect, but he's far from an elite prospect and I find that laughable that posters harp constantly on Mariota's flaws, while ignoring Winston's fatal flaws on the field. He's a better prospect, but his field vision spefically his ability to identify underneath coverage is terribe, his footwork at times can be absolutely putrid and is part of the reason why he struggles to complete passes down the seam and his decision making leaves a lot to be desired.
Mariota has terrible Deep accuracy like legit terrible. How often have you seen Mariota check down? His footwork? Lmao. Yes Jameis has his flaws, Forces it way too much, decision making not great. But unlike Mariota, Jameis has proven he can make most of not all the Pro style Throws. How often does Mariota throw in a tight window? Jameis does this all the time and he's pretty damn good at it. I'm not even gonna go into full detail with this.
I'm going to pretend this is a practical joke and walk away. Top 4 prospects since '83: Elway, Manning, Luck, Winston.
I'm not sure how Mariota ties in this, as I already said Winston was the superior prospect because he's "pro ready". I specfically compared Winston to Bridgewater. Jarmacus Russell, Sanchez, and many other players all looked pretty damn good, while playing in pro style offenses at college. I believe Winston will be a very good Quarterback, and a superior player to the ones I mentioned above, but he's far from a sure thing and I still don't see how Winston was the superior prospect to Teddy Bridgewater. Playing in a prostyle offense doesn't make automatically Winston a "sure thing". Winston hasn't shown that he can make tight window throws at the NFL level YET and no Quarterback in this draft has YET. .
Mind you, this is coming from a guy who called Marcus Mariota Kellen Moore 2.0 Please, go root for the Patriots.
Not sure what "pro style passing concepts" are. He can either throw a football or he can't. That's not a concept for passing.
Exactly what I'm thinking. There's pro style offenses,if that's what you're trying to say, but passing is passing.
I didn't think he was worth the 6th pick Now I really don't think he's worth the pick. I did watch with no sound because for some reason it wouldn't work on my phone. But no sold on him at all.
Teddy was a less risk pick over Winston, but Winston is a better prospect on the field. ( measurables are better and football IQ equal to teddy) imo
As for Winston vs Mariota most experts give the nod to Jameis and think he's more pro ready. But I'm not so sure about that. Of course the turnover ratio is way in favor for Mariota. To me this is considerable since the number one problem for young Qbs is turnovers and poor judgment. Something Jameis showed but Marcus didn't. If Winston turned the ball over at a lower level than he might have bigger problems dealing with a much rougher and more physical game. There's a few other red flags with Winston other than his off the field behavior. One is that he loves baseball and is a pitcher. So there could be and probably is some damage to his throwing arm. And what if he decides to play both sports professionally. The chances of a pitcher getting surgery are now a days pretty high. If Im the Bucs I put a clause in the contract: no more pitching on any level. One positive for Jameis: he's not a boring guy like Mariota. He's personable and funny and a real character. The press will love him.
