I would trade for Rivers. I think he has about 2-3 good years left. Maybe draft one of the QBs in 2016 and groom him behind Rivers. A swap of firsts with us getting Rivers would be the trade I would believe. I honestly can't see Rivers coming here though.
I'd make the deal. Rivers has 5 yrs in him. But he wants to play in the south and I don't think he'd resign with us. Tennessee is a natural fit.
Who knows, the New York market might be attractive to him. If he does well lots of endorsements. He was originally drafted by the Giants. He wasn't against playing for them that was Eli Manning refusing to play for the Chargers.
He won't resign because he doesn't want to play in LA. I don't see NY offering any comfort LA isn't. When he was drafted, he was a kid looking for a chance. Now he kind of controls his destiny.
He's from Alabama but played his college ball at North Carolina State. So there's no connection to Tennessee. Other than Whisenhunt. If he can be happy in San Diego he can love NJ.
Gary myers ny daily news wrote an article about this today,I seriously doubt this will ever happen http://feeds.nydailynews.com/~r/nydnrss/sports/football/jets/~3/gjKgb8PVyH0/story01.htm
LA is close to San Diego. Commuting distance. Who knows if they move to LA and they practice in Orange County it's even closer. That can't be the real reason he won't sign. And he said he could still change his mind. It might be just about money.
I don't want any part of Rivers. Under pressure the cracks show, and with our Ol the way our OL is, he'd be hammered. And that's when the picks come.
If the dude doesn't want to play 2hrs north up I5, do you really think he'll want to relocate from San Diego to NJ?!?!
I don't really believe that. There's a lot of spin on this story on both sides: the Chargers and Rivers.
I'd be stunned if it happened, but if it's on the table at some point, the Jets should pounce on it. He's a very good QB who would make the Jets legit AFC contenders immediately.
It looks like there's a chance that SD would jump on Mariota if they can make the deal. River's agent is talking smack and saying that Rivers should be getting a 20 mil per season contract which I don't think the Chargers want to pay. He's not worth that much esp at his age. But he's still very good and to me worth what he's getting now, in the mid-teens maybe. So it would all depend on whether Mariota is still on the board at 6. If Mac is presented with a trade (probably before the draft with a lot of "what ifs") would he do it. I would if if they can sign Rivers to an extension and it's a trade of 1st rounders. In other words our 6 for their 17. Would I deal Wilk for Rivers No.
A 33 year old QB in 2015 is a lot different than a 33 year old QB in 1995. These guys are lasting longer because they're so well protected. You can't sniff a QB without getting a 15 yard flag anymore. There is pretty solid evidence to that if you look at the older QB's having success in the last 5 years or so. If we actually had a shot at trading for Rivers we'd be foolish not to IMO, but I doubt we do. People keep talking about this magical 10 year franchise QB that's supposed to fall into our laps as if it happens all the time. Well when was the last time we had one? Pennington 15 years agoo prior to his injuries? Does he even count since injuries ended that promise so quickly? Womp wooooomp.
