There's rumors the Chargers could trade Rivers and their GM hasn't denied it. Plus Rivers who will be in the last year of his present contract in 2015 (I think he's due around 17.5) has said he won't sign a new deal with SD this year. And on top of that the Chargers who have the 17th pick in the draft have expressed interest in Mariota and have scheduled him to work out for them. There are rumors that Tennessee could be interested in Rivers since Whisenhunt knows him from when he was OC at San Diego. Hard to believe they'd trade their 2nd overall for Rivers straight up. If this doesn't happen what about the Jets trading for Rivers. Assuming they could get him to sign an extension. Something like a swap of first rounders and maybe a 3rd. For those of us who don't like rookie Qbs we'd be getting an experienced vet who is a franchise Qb. No growing pains or years learning how to play the QB position and maybe never developing. So if Mariota is there at 6 would you do it or select Mariota?

I'm on board with Rivers, but you do NOT need to give up a first or swap firsts for him for that salary. I think a 2nd or 3rd would suffice honestly.

I'd absolutely trade for Phillip Rivers. He's a top tier QB. I'm not sure about Mariota as a player. He could be good, but the draft is a crap shoot as we know.

If the Jets added Philip Rivers, they instantly become a legit threat to the Patriots.

Philip rivers is a borderline elite QB who has 5 or 6 good years left. You absolutely have to give up the number 1. And honestly? I'd think about it.

The salary is only for 2015. And you wouldn't make a deal unless you could get him to sign an extension. I'm assuming for less money. You might have to swap first round picks. Not sure you could get him for a 2nd.

I think he will be a Titan when it is all said and done. I would have loved him to be Jet though.

Rivers doesn't want to move to LA, yet you think he's going to want to move to NY?

    It's not happening.

Many reports out there that Rivers would like to go back to Tennessee if he were to leave SD. No way he comes to NY. Too bad.

I would do it. We are a good QB away from deep playoff, if not Superbowl contention. Disclaimer: IMO.

Agreed. Perfect trade really. SD trades their 1st rounder and Rivers for the #2 pick and they take Mariota.

Id easily give up the 6th for him. A team isnt going to trade a borderline elite QB unless they are getting one in return though.

Is this new information? The last reports I saw said that the Chargers had no intention of letting Phillip Rivers off the team. Can you post a source?

I just can't see it. Who would start at QB next year....sure as hell could not be MM with that offense.
Having said that, I'll take him in a second

In Pro Football Talk it stated that the Chargers Gm would not say that he won't trade Rivers. Nothing about the Jets other than speculation by I think it was Rappaport or Cimini. This is a long shot but not impossible.

He has 5 or 6 good years left at age 33? Right. You guys are nuts. His skills will start deteriorating, and he will become more injury prone, that's if he doesn't retire. IMO you never trade a top 10 draft pick for a a player that old.

I would LOVE it if Rivers goes to the Titans. That would mean that Mariota will probably fall to the Jets.

If Mac really wanted to knock our socks off he'd do this deal. I wouldn't give up the 6 without their 17. But I assume they'd want more like maybe a 3rd. The SD GM is blowing smoke about how Rivers is his guy and how great he is but won't deny he could trade him. If the deal is right Rivers can move his family to Jersey. Ok, it's not San Diego but the multi-million houses there are beautiful, too. If he wants country and rural he can find plenty of that there.

Aaron Rodgers is around the same age as Philip Rivers and he is showing no signs of slowing down. Why wouldn't we take a shot on an elite QB who still has plenty of good play left in him? We're not trading for Brett Favre or Peyton Manning here. Brady is like 38 I believe, and to me imo he looks like he's still an elite QB with no injuries. If you are concerned with Rivers age, then draft a QB after 2-3 years you have him under contract

Not 5 or 6 ELITE, but definitely 5 or 6 good ones. Manning broke the touchdown record at age 37 (after 2 neck surgeries), brady won a Super Bowl at 37, Brees is still playing well. QBs have until 37/38 before they drop off.
