I hate trading proven players for draft picks. especially when they're very young. Wilk could have another 6-8 years in the league. A rookie, whether it's a top five pick or not, has just potential and could be out of the league in 3 or 4. Pay the man. I will be seriously pissed if we valued paying some old vets over extending our own home grown talent.
Wasn't that long ago we drafted Gholston 6th overall. Imagine if that happens again with our MoWilk pick we got in a trade.
Lol so true... These 2 threads got started on some bizarre hypothetical question and everyone is up in arms.. There not any rumors or anything leading to the fact the jets would deal hm. Lol right now you are correct. No need for the pre rumor panic.
Wow, the man love for Wilkerson on this board is off the charts. I think you guys love him even more than some posters here love Mariota. More than half of the posters would rather pay $14.5 mil for Wilkerson than take a top five pick for him, Did he even make the pro bowl this year?
The Pro bowl is an absolute joke. What don't you understand about proven player v. random rook? Draft picks are far from a sure thing regardless of where they're drafted. Wilkerson was a second team all-pro and has consistently been ranked near the top of his position by PFF. He's a consistent home grown talent. We need to start treating our guys right.
Wow. The lottery-love for draft pick from this dude is off the chart I think you love draft picks more than some people here love proven free agents. You'd trade a proven, young and productive player for a top five PICK. Did these [prospects] even make pro bowl? What assurance do you have that they will? =========================================================== Jokes aside, a bird in your hand is worth two in the bushes. It doesn't take a rocket scientists to figure that out. Sure - you can draft the replacement with top five pick. In order for that to work out, Jets need the following breaks: 1. The said player must be there when Jets go to the podium with the swapped pick. 2. The player then must be at least as equally as good as Wilkerson, if not better. 3. AND he must not have these [contract hold out] starting from his rookie season. [We saw Revis doing that - right?] All three are such colossal 'if's. It is not even a guarantee that the drafted player will be as good as Wilkerson, let alone better. Remember - if Jets get a competent replacement for Wilkerson, THEN Jets are where they were, talent-wise. [Ok - they are more robust with the cap. That I can agree with.] So why take unnecessary risk? What's the rational behind that? To save 13M? With the HOPE that the player will pan out to be as good as Wilkerson? What are you, a retard or something?
I'm sorry, but when did this forum become such a shit-show? Are we really discussing the trade possibilities for the 2nd best 3-4 DE in the NFL, who's 25 and will be under contract for at least 2 more years? Is that what this is? Am I drunk? Was this board taken over by a bunch of middle school kids?
He is not under contract for two more years. We have a one year option at $7 mil this year. Next year he is an unrestricted free agent. You are entitled to your opinion but at least get the facts straight.
Right? And where does everybody get this figure of $14.5 million dollar a year? Somebody just made that out of thin air and everybody ran with it. His contract will be closer to $11 a year average, and the Jets will re-sign him.
People are so quick to dismiss trading him for the right price, but it begs the question since everyone keeps saying 2nd best....Just exactly what has JJ Watt won for the Texans? Best defensive player in the game, without question. Funny how he hasn't even sniffed a Super Bowl. Leave sentiment out of it. The team MIGHT be better served trading him. For the right price of course. If they think they can get a franchise QB via the draft or trade by trading Wilk, it's stupid not to entertain it.
Robert Quinn got an extension of roughly $15 mil. Wilkerson reportedly wanted to be paid more than Quinn. For $11 mil I would keep Wilk but if he was willing to take it we would have signed him already.
