The money will be fully guaranteed in Gilchrist's deal if he will be on our roster on 3rd day of next league year.

That's WAYYYY different than the spotrac site. They got him guaranteed for 8.5MM out of the 4 yr 22MM contract. Do you have a link about what you state to be the case? Thanks in advance.

Same with Cro's contract. We can only hope for the best.

Could be as low as $4 mil could be more than $8 mil.

Adding him will knock player 51 off the list getting us $500k in return.

If they use the same proportions they used on Gilchrist contract, it's going to look like this:

    2015: salary 1.5; signing bonus .875; roster bonus 2.

    2016: salary 7; signing bonus .875

    2017: salary 9; signing bonus .875

    2018: salary 9; signing bonus .875

Total = 32; guaranteed 20 which means he can get cut after 2017 with minimal damage.

There was actually an article on how bad it was a few days ago, I don't remember where I saw it. Like I said that day it was released these people all giddy about his return will be disappointed when he's a cap casualty next offseason.

I'm a bit biased as well as I have always been a fan. That being said, I like the signing but it is way overpriced for what his skill set is.

Didn't understand the Harris move at all.. Our d-line does enough run stopping. It's hard to believe that we couldn't have gotten Harris cheaper than that. On top of that the way Bowles runs his defense it seems like Demario would be in along with a pass beside him a lot, so if Harris becomes limited.. giving him all that money is pointless. But what do i know? They must have a plan already for him.

According to Overthecap, we currently have $12,283,974 cap space, not included the Brewer and Vickerson deals and draft pool.
At the moment, we have 20M cap space in 2016 with 41 player under contract. However, we have a lot of managable contracts like below ones:
Ferguson 14.1M cap number, cap saving: 9.1M
Mangold: 8.6M cap number, cap saving: 8.6M
Marshall 8.1M cap number, cap saving: 8.1M
Gilchrist: 5.625M cap number, cap saving 3.75M
Carpenter: cap number 5.575M, cap saving 2.95M
Giacomini: cap number 5.125M, cap saving 3.875M

Cap saving means pre-June cut and 20M not included this year draft pool cap number.
Of course, I don't want to say that we have to cut all the mentioned players, only wanted to show that we are in healthy cap situation, which is manageable.

The guarantee is only that years salary not 2017 and 2018. If he doesn't perform this year they can cut him before next season and only have the signing bonus still on the cap, even if he plays next year he can be cut at anytime after that and they owe him nothing for 2017 and 2018.

This has been laid out in detail in the following thread:

    http://www.forums.theganggreen.com/threads/jets-2016-offseason.83631/

Given the contracts handed out in free agency this year we learned that filling holes in free agency can be expensive.

I do not think anyone would want to cut Mangold or Marshall loose so that is $16.7 M that will not be added to our cap.

Next year all of the following players are free agents. Resigning them would come out of the $20 mil in free cap space:

PLAYER Rank POS 2015 SALARY 2015 CAP HIT
    Muhammad Wilkerson 6 DE $ 6,969,000 $ 6,969,000
    Quinton Coples 13 OLB $ 1,515,381 $ 2,800,889
    Chris Ivory 14 RB $ 2,000,000 $ 2,750,000
    Damon Harrison 18 DT $ 2,356,000 $ 2,356,000
    Calvin Pace 19 OLB $ 2,125,000 $ 2,250,000
    Bilal Powell 20 RB $ 1,250,000 $ 2,000,000
    Demario Davis 23 ILB $ 1,492,000 $ 1,686,490
    Jason Babin 24 DE $ 1,350,000 $ 1,625,000
    Antonio Allen 25 CB $ 1,542,000 $ 1,542,000
    Jaiquawn Jarrett 26 S $ 1,542,000 $ 1,542,000
    Darrin Walls 28 CB $ 1,075,000 $ 1,075,000
    Curtis Brown 33 CB $ 660,000 $ 660,000
    T.J. Graham 34 WR $ 660,000 $ 660,000
    Mario Harvey 35 FB $ 660,000 $ 660,000
    Chris Owusu 36 WR $ 660,000 $ 660,000
    Ronald Talley 40 DE $ 600,000 $ 600,000
    Saalim Hakim 42 WR $ 585,000 $ 585,000
    Chris Pantale 43 TE $ 585,000 $ 585,000
    Ryan Quigley 44 P $ 585,000 $ 585,000
    Daryl Richardson 45 RB $ 585,000 $ 585,000
    Matt Simms 46 QB $ 585,000 $ 585,000
    Zach Sudfeld 47 TE $ 585,000 $ 585,000
    Sean Hooey 61 RT $ 435,000 $ 435,000

If Wilkerson counts for $14.5 mil next year and our 2016 draft class adds another $5 mil that leaves us no room for anyone else.

Not only would we have to cut Brick and others to sign outside free agents but those cuts would be needed to sign our own guys including starters at NT, ILB, ILB, RB, and possibly safety.

Harris is a lot of things he is the QB of the defense and he is drastically underrated.Id still like to see Demario Davis have a break out year

The David Harris hate is asinine. He's the quarterback of the defense, one the best run stuffing amd blitzing ILB in the league, a savvy veteran, and lifelong Jet.

He's a liability in coverage for sure, but knowing Bowles, Harris is going be blitzing. He's worth every cent he's getting paid.
