I believe if he were to implement an offense that caters to what he does well now, he and the team can have success early, not unlike what Shanahan did with RGIII his rookie year. Mornhinweg practically eliminating under center drops from the offense for Geno is another less successful example. Given Mariota's high football IQ, playmaking ability, decision making, work ethic..etc., I can see a scenario where he is our best solution coming out of camp.
I hope you're right. After the last week it seems like our team is built to win now. We just need that Qb.
First off I did NOT say he was a better fit for the Jets versus the Eagles just disagree that "[his] best chance to succeed is w/ the Eagles". Second, the question above comes from the common perspective that I also disagree with that Mariota is a "system QB" that can only play in a spread style offense. I think Mariota is a fit for ANY team running a scheme that requires their QB to be athletic, possess great feet, a quick release and good decision making. Thus, he would be a good fit for the Jets, Browns, Rams, Chiefs and more. In the end, the team of the many that are good fits who picks earliest and need a QB will likely get him.
There's been a rumored possibility that COULD involve the Jets. Cleveland allegedly said they would trade their 19th pick straight up for Bradford (don't ask... it's the Browns). If Philly were to offer that 19th AND 20th pick and maybe another 3rd rounder this year or next year.. whatever, I'd take it. Now who would we take with those two picks? I'd go a route i haven't seen anyone go yet. With the 19th pick i'd take Ereck Flowers, and the 20th pick i'd take the home run hitter himself, yes, Mr. Melvin Gordon. That would give us a powerful run attack.. which would cause teams to bring more up in the box, that's when Marshall, Decker, Kerley, Amaro come in to play. I don't think it would take Peyton Manning to hit one of those players in one on one coverage...they all run good routes and are big targets (exclude kerley he's small compared to them.. but he's our only bit of "speed" on offense right now). Lets face it, an elite secondary and effective balance on offense is what took us as far as we got last time. It's what gets most teams rings. RB can make an instant impact unlike most the other positions for rookies. Of course this is all speculation but it could be something if they Philly makes that trade with CLE

Maybe certain things will be overlooked because of the need to draft a franchise QB. I believe Mariotta's is he plays in the spread and not the pro style. We will see. But the way the team is being assembled, we do not have the luxury, like some teams (example the Packers) to draft a developmental QB.
So what other team gives him the best chance to succeed other then the Eagles? I don't care much about system QB, and this and that - just strictly who gives him the best chance to succeed? I see Mariota's best chance at succeeding with the Eagles. No one in this league knows him more then Chip and the offense he runs taylors to his strengths. Jets [to an extent], Rams, and Browns - I highly disagree that those teams give Mariota the best chance to succeed compared to the Eagles. Titans are absolutely the WORST fit for him in the top 5. Won't stand a chance there. Not with Whisenhunt and his style of calling plays.
1. I don't give a shit which team gives him the BEST chance to succeed. I'm a Jet fan, not a Marcus Mariota fan. I care not what he can do for any other franchise. 2. I think Mariota could excel in any number of systems, the Jets being one of them. If Chan Gailey can make chicken salad out of chicken shit with Geno, he'll make Duck l'orange out of Mariota and it will be the top selling item in the menu for 15 years. 3. Mariota is a better pure prospect than anyone coming out next year. If we have any interest in him at all I agree with PK, we HAVE to take him. Some of the QBs coming out next year are dreadful (Dak and Hack) and the rest have to improve a LOT for them to be considered high 1st round picks. If we're drafting 24th next year and you want to take a flyer in one if those guys? A Duck in the hand is worth so much more than that gamble. _

As I've said before, teams have been reaching for QBs in recent history because of the new CBA. With the new rookie wage scale it is better to overdraft a QB in the first then the alternative. If you whiff, the financial ramifications are minimal and if you hit, you have your franchise QB doing cheap labor for 5 years. Thus, if there is even remote belief that Marioata can be a franchise QB, you take the chance as no longer does it set your franchise back 3-5 years as it did in the past. Lastly, there is NEVER a wrong time to draft a potential franchise QB when you don't have one on your roster regardless if you believe he is ready on day 1 or not.
All those guys are before the current CBA. It's a completely different world now. One where the Browns can entertain drafting another QB in the first round a year after drafting Johnny Football.
Just like we drafted Bridgewater last year to fix our QB problem. Wait, hold on a minute, that's right - it wouldn't have been fair to Geno.
