He's said in interviews that when he was a kid his father didn't like football so he didn't inherit a team to be a fan of ... so he was a front runner fan who rooted for Miami and Dallas. Then when he was a young adult, his brother got season tickets to the Jets one year, he started going to the games with him, and has been a Jets fan ever since.
I respect that. Mostly because when I was a kid, my family was mostly Giants fans and I didn't want to be one. I rooted for the Niners (Rice), Lions (Sanders), and Raiders (Tim Brown). Those were the most exciting players to me, and took me a while to come around and root for a hometown team. And that was mostly because I wanted to root for a team that I could at least watch every week. I don't think it makes you less of a fan unless you come and go as you please. Some of us just grow up stupid.

chants arent the same because the stadium is filled with different folks than it was 25 years ago. the chants were great BEFORE fireman ed made himself popular. there is no reason they cant be great again.
We are getting a ton of new posters backing Fireman Ed. What's going on here? Did people on Jets Insider really have a strong Ed following?
The guy is a season ticket holder who displays his fandom in a manner of his own choosing. I fail to see how a message board could influence how he acts ( a billboard perhaps, but not a message board)
Why do so many people care about a guy with a fire helmet on who just leads a chant.We don't need a website, petition, or anything like that to bring him back. We just need to get back to winning games and making it back to the playoffs for the crowd to be more active on gameday.Fuck Firemen Ed
Whatever makes the in stadium experience better. Dont understand the hatred for a guy that was just improving it. Hatred should be towards the shitty product on the field. I (and we as a fanbase) pay alot of money every year to attend games and its about the experience you cant get while sitting in your mancave or at a bar. So overall who cares as long as we win and games get louder and fans more engaged to give us a homefield advantage.

Most Jets fans do not know this...he's a closet Dolphins fan. He did not originate the Jets chant. He always thought his shit didn't stink. I can't believe he's in the Football Fans HOF.
