Assuming that this offense stays generally the same, particulary at the QB and WR positions, what can we realistically expect from Decker this year? I have a feeling Tennessee is taking Mariota and aside from taking Cooper our offensive would remain dynamically the same, even if we took a RB in the third round. How much is Marshall and potentially better QB play going to help Decker? I'm not sure the Decker signing was a bust on Idzik's part, but I'm afraid that we're going to leave the WR position alone hoping that Decker is going to be the guy you paid for, and we still don't know what we have. It's hard to really indict him after the type of year that we had, and he seemed to turn it on more towards the end of the season after Harvin was acquired. Hopefully that's a sign of what is to come with Marshall opening things up on the other side. Maybe I'm reaching with this, but I think Decker has a pretty big impact on how we do this season. If he can really elevate his play to come close to his paycheck, I believe it means a lot including maybe even a game or two in the regular season, assuming he is healthy all year. I don't think it's totally fair to judge him based on last year, but I'm hoping for the best and that he can take the offense to another level. As a relative concern, if Mariota is gone and Cooper is still on the board, do you take him?
The stickler here is that last game against MIAMA ... Both him and Geno clicked and both had their best game and leaves everyone with that glimmer of...maybe...just maybe...lol
Sorry but this sounds like one of the "we need to draft WR at 6" threads we've been seeing for the past day or 2. And I wouldn't go crazy if we did but we still have a couple of glaring needs, pass rushing OLB and speed RB and OG, if a WR is the BPA at 6 you take him but it's not a need like you are making it out to be. Edit: totally forgot that pesky QB situation too
Decker is a really solid receiver and, imo, gets no where near the respect he deserves. The guy was hurt last season and missed 2 games, I think, yet with unstable QB play still managed almost 1000yd season. All this without another receiver on the field to take the focus off him. I think Decker is going to thrive with Marshall opposite him just like he did in Denver with Thomas on the other side. Between Marshall Decker & Amaro, we've got great big targets in the passing game, although I would like to see us add another WR to the mix.
Decker suprised me last year. as the clear #1 with no other real threats he really got open a TON. if he plasy 13+ games i think he has a really good year. my only concerns with him and injury related. i had originally thought manning made him, but he really toasted some guys last year
Dorial Green-Beckham is the best.... but he has issues. think josh gordon both on and off the field. After that amari cooper is the best with White not far behind. cooper better all around with white being more of an explosive/big play threat any of the 3 would be enormous additions
The guy was hurt a lot last season. I think he missed 2 complete games. I know the Chicago game he only played the first quarter. If he's 100% for a majority of the season. I see him putting up numbers. With Marshall drawing attention. Hopefully Kerley/Amaro doing their share.
Decker was just another crappy signing by Idzik. He fits in with Harvin, Johnson, & Vick. Over paid, with little production, even when healthy. We paid him like a #1 WR and being honest, we hoped for the best, but he was made to look great by Peyton. He will be the #2 WR this year if that, and knowing we are paying him and Kerley almost $12M a year to be a #3 & #4 WR really sucks. When the Jets draft or sign a real #2, we will have a way overpaid receiving corp, and most of your praised Idzik for being good with money. Hell, he through away $6.5M on Harvin for half a season of play, which gave us 1TD and everyone should have knew he would not be here this season. More and more I really hate how far Idzik and Rex set this team back.
You and I have the same opinion for the most part...except there's that thought in the back of my head WHAT IF Decker or Marshall get injured. After Kerley's disaster season I don't ever want to see him lining up wide again
Didn't ask for a QB expectation... Asked for a WR expectation and that's what they are capable of. Just hope the QB doesn't hold them back too much.
The rub on Decker coming out of Denver is he's a whinny bitch who drops a lot of passes and blames everyone around him. I didn't see any of that last season so it may be (in part) sour grapes. ANY receiver who plays along side a true threat will perform better and have better games/stats, so yes, I expect Decker/Marshall to put up typical #1/#2 WR stats. Any conversation about NY Jet WRs should include some of our young guys we got last year. Isn't Enunwa (haha spelling) a big possession WR (6'-2" 225lb) we're all looking forward to see more of? Plus Hakim Sallim (who challenged Marshall to a 40 yrd foot race to see who wears #15) is one of the fastest WRs in the league. I'm not mad at the thought of taking a top WR at #6, but if we go in a diff direction we already have a good caste with potential on the bench so either way we're good.
Decker had over 70 catches and nearly 1000 yards with Geno for a QB and playing injured for part of the season - missing a whole game too. He was a good signing and he'd be even better if we had a legit QB.
we really can't answer this until we know who the qb is fitz? geno? mariota? breees???? fitz - 900 yards - 3 tds geno -700 yards - 2 tds mariota - 750 yards - 4 tds brees - 1100 yards - 6 tds
he got over 900 yards and 5 td's last year with smith at the helm and injuries plaguing him, why would that go down?
