Time to move on from the 2014 roster thread and rather than creating a FA Need thread I decided to mix it all in one this year. Has anybody heard anything about Douzable it would be nice if we could bring him back. I'm surprised Eillis hasn't gotten more play either. I agree OLB looks pretty damn weak with two old dogs(don't mean that in a bad way) and a guy that needs to go back to the d line. Also hoping we get to see more Ik this season. He looked like he had some game in limited PT.
The players we signed along with the slightly over market signing of Harris leads me to believe that we are going to run nickel and dime almost exclusively with hybrid safeties providing much of the role of OLB. We may draft OLB at 6, but I do not think it is a huge need for the defense we are building.
The thing that absolutely stands out to me besides obviously QB are 1) Lack of WR Depth, 2) lack of TE threat. I think the Jets will get a guy like Todd Gurley or Melvin Ingram (RBs) in the second round to solve the problem of completing a good backfield. WR could also be drafted in the 3rd round or if Amari Cooper is available at the 1st round at number 6. However, I think there's still some good WR options in free agency that would provide better depth. Marshall, Decker, and Kerley are good, but WR is a position of high rotation. As far as TE goes, I think that will be a weakness this season...I like Amaro but he's no "Jimmy Graham" by any stretch of the imagination. In order to compete with Fitzpatrick or Geno, you need some serious weapons, and Amaro doesn't do that for me. The offense projects to be similar or slightly better than last year's to me. Carpenter is not really an upgrade (he has struggled). Willie Colon is a liability as well. Once again, OL can be improved in the draft, but as of now....it's not looking much better. There's no home-run threat at RB that can break spectacular plays. Marshall and Decker are obviously a good combo (probably better than Harvin and Decker), but WR weapons become less so with no good QB at the helm. All this changes of course if the Jets get a guy like Mariota or Jameis Winston (who I think would be starting by Week 8).
Isn't this what this thread is about? http://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/our-current-depth-chart.83687/page-2#post-3216463
Pretty big hole I think, especially with the amount of beef we have on the O-Line I'm expecting a run-heavy O. Ivory is great but everyone seems to have forgotten about his injury history. The TE position could use a reliable vet and that DL needs a couple of players to rotate in
ILB depth is non-existent as well. I'm guessing that's a position to be addressed in the draft. Or maybe Bowles plans to continue using 4 safetys on the field instead of I/OLBs.
No. Did this thread last year as I said in the OP that seems to be a half written depth chart if we were to play right now.
lookin at the roster right now, except for maybe olb i don't see where a rookie could crack the starting lineup. Thats a good thing for us. We may actually start developing players without dependin on them to be immediate all pro
I think RG and RT could easily be replaced by a rookie. Pace/Babin rotating would be okay but if we take a guy at 6 they would definitely be replaced as well.
we can bring up to 90 guys to camp, and then camp plus the preseason games will sort out what type and who gets to play. I would try an experiment with cro at free safety, then revis, skrine, and either milliner or mc dougle all on the field at the same time.
A lot of people seem to really dislike Cumberland. I think he is just fine as a #2 however with Sudfeld and Amaro in the mix it would be nice to replace Cumberland with a blocking TE. With his contract it's likely that this season will be his last here, we won't be able to keep just whoever come next off-season.
