Jesus didn't ever play FS. His position was "Savior." ;)

Look Bowles must like the guy who basically wasn't rated highly. We'll have to accept that evaluation. The guy will be a role player and they believe he can fit in to their scheme.

Gilchrist is our strong safety, Pryor our free safety. calling it now.

You don't waste range like Pryor's by sticking him in the box and committing him in coverage early. Calvin Pryor is not an in the box safety. Gilchrist IS though, and now Pryor will have the free range to hang back a second and engage hard and fast as needed.

    because THATS his natural position.

It will be interesting to see how it unfolds. Perhaps Pryor can learn to take better angles and recognize routes better and improve in coverage, but just because he played FS at Louisville doesn't mean that's his natural position imo. His strength is vs. the run and in making big hits. His speed may seem somewhat wasted at SS, but it just means he can get to RBs quicker, thus allowing them less yardage, and he would be a better blitzer. Gilchrist played CB in college and CB, FS and SS in SD. He has more natural coverage skills and more experience in coverage. I think it could go either way.

Yea, Pryor hits like a strong safety but gets a little lost in coverage also we have all seen the terrible angles in open field. He likes hitting ppl that aren't looking

    Revis Christ
    Gil Christ
    Cromartie Christ
& Skrine Christ will be in coverage
    Maybe Macdougal Christ too

Pryor will be in the box hitting receivers over the middle, and running backs that make it to the 2nd level

TGIF!!! I'm feel like I'm on an freakin rollercoaster with all these SIC MOVES MAC is making in FA
I mean I really didn't expect any of these moves, maybe 2 like we always do and usually mediocre stopgags at that.

These are all the top FA's

    DAMNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!
I"M FREAKIN STOCKED ABOUT THE DRAFT

Well that explains a lot. As much as I'm thrilled by "the band getting back together" the Skrine and Gilchrist signings were a bit puzzling to me. No longer. Plus. I love the fact that we'll no longer be gambling it all on Milliner and McDougal being 100% healthy. It's not as if they were established players at all anyway. That plan last year was a complete joke, and it cost Idzik his job.

i agree that its not some foregone conclusion on how either Pryor or Gilchrist will be used..
also agree you typically don't take a S that high, with the plans on just playing him up in the box. He has more potential than that, it just hasn't come to fruition yet.

would love to hear what Bowles is thinking.
it's possible he doesn't know yet, and wants to see what Pryor can do before making a decision.
putting the emphasis on getting someone a little more versatile like Gilchrist may be exactly for that reason.

personally, i feel if Pryor doesn't make big strides to earn trust on the deep field, they will simplify his role for him, and allow him to play off his instincts this season while his game matures.

i think that's the key. they must believe he fits a role in the system, and probably like his position versatility.
have to trust in that.......we have a great scouting GM, and a HC with an expertise on DB's.

dying to hear their thoughts on the move, as well as the Skrine move.

    interesting....
If Milliner isn't full speed right away, i could see Marcus Williams earning his way onto the field.
he's the healthiest of the 3 holdovers at the position. we are really deep now. love it!

Williams was an underrated piece last year. I hope he can earn some playing time.

Gilchrist got hit by PFF in coverage stats because the guy never had one true position. They were asking him yo do a lot, while never given the chance to comfortable last year.

He ranked out much better the year before.

That article on the other Jets forum about talking to some dude from a chargers forum made me laugh.

So many people on this forum I would not trust to evaluate our own guys and I just envisioned that aspect of things.

I watched some film on him and I think he has good range, angles, and speed. He is a versatile player. I think he is going to so good things under Bowles.

    I'm happy with this signing.

People shouldnt believe everything they read.

    All I'm saying.
