Another thing about Cro is I think he's a solid veteran presence. Add in as others have mentioned that he can help the others learn Bowles's D, and he's adding a lot in the intangibles department. Not to digress but some mentioned last evening how Cro's wife would be looking for a new place to live in the NYC area. Actually I read they never sold their house, which sounded a bit freaky to me, as if he knew he was coming back.
So Mehta says: Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 15m15 minutes ago Jets doled out $59 million in fully guaranteed money to revamp the cornerback situation #nyj http://nydn.us/1FYsLR5 with absolutely no explanation of where that number came from. Assuming he is right (haha) we know Revis's guarantee is 39M which would mean a total of 20M spread over Cro, Gilchrist and Skrine..that would be ridiculously cheap if true. Time will tell and hopefully we see those contract details today.
Look like Cro is 20mm guaranteed http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/ So the 59mm # is merely the sum of Revis + Cro Far cry from the day Cro was originally traded to the jets and they had to front him money for his child support--anyone remember that?
I agree that Moore would want more money. I think Fitz would have as well if he were a FA rather than being traded for and the Jets assuming his contract with the Texans. Because of his familiarity with Gailey's offense and previous success in that offense, I think Fitz was the best choice, but Moore would have been my second choice.
wow, 20M guaranteed, 8M per season? think they def overspent on Cro... one thing i do like about all these contracts.....i'm not seeing large signing bonuses. so not a whole lot of dead money after 2 years to move on. still, i think 10M guaranteed on Cro would've been more appropriate, or a lesser annual salary.
It's not really that much. You can cut him after year 2 and only pay him $4mil in year 3. This is assuming the $20mil figure is right. We need to wait until we officially hear the breakdown of the contract.
I think the Revis camp helped Cro negotiate that deal. They are good at bullying the Jets owner who no longer is willing to fight with them. Because he doesn't personally want to get criticized by the press. 20m guaranteed for him is way too much but it's not ridiculous.
Given Culliver is 4 years younger and is making 4 million less guaranteed, I probably would have gone with him. I'm still not completely sold on Cro after the 2013 year but I'm hoping for the best.
Cro is better today, but Culliver is only 26 compared to Cro's 30. A few years down the road we might be signing a different tune. I'm fine with the annual salary but I wish he were guaranteed for just the first year or two, not 2.5 years essentially. He won't be on our team 3 years from now IMO.
People may mock Cro's past and all but he hasn't done an ounce of what Culliver has had off the field. He's bashed women, gays and got into an altercation with someone.
i do think Cro is the better player, and obviously a system fit. just wish is was slightly less guaranteed. have to minimize potential for dead money, and agree it is likely a 2 year deal in essence. so there will likely be 4M dead money on this deal in year 3....short of a restructure to stay. can't complain too much tho, as Mac hasn't been dishing out signing bonuses. smart move as we had the space.....no need to prorate anything over the life of contract. well done on that front overall..
