Thanks! Very helpful moving forward. I still see holes and weak spots. Plenty work to do, and I feel like the buggy is half full, and we have spent a massive portion of the grocery money.
With this DL and this secondary, you don't need a lot of talent at OLB/ILB. 2nd tier will be just fine. 2nd round rookie will be doing just fine, if you ask me. With this kind of FA, my dream draft would go like: 1st: Mariota 2nd: OLB 3rd: OLB 4th: OL [OT or OG]
I would take just OL earlier (Maybe D'Brick's eventual replacement in the 2nd). OLB is important too, though. I'd also try to grab a blocking TE in the 4th or 7th.
I slightly disagree with the idea of second tier talent at any LB position, because of the gap between our DL and secondary, in the passing game in obvious run situations, and obvious man to man - high pressure- passing short downs. However I agree with you in nickel, dime, dollar, situations as long as the LB or LB's on the field can pull double duty getting in the backfield and or switching to coverage of the pass. I feel if the DL is getting extensive pressure, like our line can, and our secondary is jamming hard, most of the underneath is exposed by TE's and RB's in the flats and short middle. That's why Harris has most always been a liability to us. Against straight run Harris is great. I'm not asking for LT, but I would love a young Patrick Willis! Lol Maybe Demario can rise up. He is fast enough, but still young in the recognition aspect of NFL defense. A stud OLB or combo LB would help tighten up our defense tremendously. I hope we get a major contribution out of our 1st round pick, whether offense or defense.
In reply to Zach The only problem aside from the fact the Jets won't take OLB back to back is that there are not many decent OLBs available outside of the first round. This is a very offense oriented draft coming up.......outside of the pass rushers who should all be gone in the top half of the first round there isn't much left. I suppose you could always find a diamond in the rough . I say if they take Mariota #6 the 2nd round will most likely RB/OT and the 3rd round the other. If they go OLB it will be at #6.....I expect them to go heavy with offense this draft. It will be exciting that's for sure ....
We can agree to disagree here. My target are as the following: 2nd: Eli Harold 3rd: Hau'oli Kikaha 4th: Lorenzo Mauldin I think good OL lasts only up to 3rd, so if Jets get Harold in 2nd, Matias in 3rd then Mauldin in 4th, that would make my kind of draft.
Lot of players playing for roster spots. Thanks guys for filling out ristrrs. Makes it interesting. OLB may be solid now but they are old. if we need to nab a OLB I Agree with jets80, not much top OLB to go with after early rounds. Definitely should get OL in Draft for depth and replace DBrick next year. RB is very thin to me. If ivory gets hurt I like Powell a lot but need another decent RB.
Why is Barnes gone? Wasn't he just signed last year? Ellis hasn't been re-signed that I know of and neither has Douzable.
I disagree regarding OLBs. Based on everything I've read, this is a deep draft at OLBs and unless there's a real run on them early, there should be some good prospects available in the 3rd and 4th rounds, maybe even lower.
TJ Barnes is still here, the OLB Antwan Barnes was a vet signed from the Chargers 2 years ago and is not on the team.
I was thinking the same - but then they are all but prospects still [this no one can deny] so the valuation can be different from people to people.
