I will keep this short. We started a petition to bring back Fireman Ed. I know some people love him and some people hate him.. Just throwing it out there that the petition exists incase anybody wants to sign it. We are already coming up on 600 signatures in the first day. https://www.change.o...-ed-come-back-2 You can also read about it here. http://www.metro.us/...--sKbALRCKcDfY/ I - for one - am sick of how stagnant the crowd is and the absurd ways that Neil Glat tried to replace Ed with his dopey marching band and stupid fan contests.. putting any personal feelings about Ed aside, I am sure that nobody can argue that he is the only person who has proven that can get the chant going - and since he has been gone, the game day atmosphere has suffered because of it.
It's not about "bringing him back" the guy decided it was time to call it quits. If he was fired it would be one thing, but he got while the getting was good. "If you build it he will come" They being the Jets and he being the fans. If the Jets come out there and the defense is blowing people the hell up and we get some half decent production out of the offense. The fans will return en masse and the stadium will rock with or without Ed.
Bring back Ed is a way to reach out to Ed.. Not the Jets... Only he can decide to come back since he already turned down the team last year when they asked. I am hoping this year - since it is the fans asking - he will. Not because I love the Fireman Ed character... Because i love what he brings to the atmosphere.
The whole "fuck Ed he quit" thing isn't really fair... He still goes to games - he just got sick of being harassed by other Jets fans. In a small way, I can relate to what he went through after doing this Idzik campaign and some of the terrible shit people said to us... Some maniac Jets fan wished cancer on my children because he didn't like our campaign. And I am sure I only got 1% of the crap Ed heard because he was a recognizable face. It is time for Jets fans to stop fighting with other Jets fans and realize that going to the games is supposed to be fun. Ed makes the games more fun. For anybody to have a problem with him is just petty nonsense.
There has to be another fat retired fireman in NY. And stop making yourself out to be the victim, no one really wants your kids to get cancer. You pretended to represent all Jets fans, you didn't...then or now. Fuck Ed.
I'm very happy with Maccagnan so far as Jets GM. But the bold is beautifully said. Those billboards were so fucking annoying and made Jets fans look bad IMO.
How about Woody just lower ticket prices so die hards can come and blow the roof(I know we dont have one) off of JetLife
The game day atmosphere has suffered because we have been 6-10,8-8 & 4-12 the last few years. If we start winning games that will all change ......it has nothing to do with stupid Firemen Ed
I'm happy for the team we are putting together, but I'm pretty good at basic math too. This team will not be sustainable, unless we do very well in the next few drafts.
Ed is being treated like some kind of martyr - the crowd has been stagnant b/c the product on the field has been awful.
You had my full support in getting rid of Idzik using any means available. Fireman Ed? Sorry, no. The J-E-T-S chant (and general game atmosphere) was 100x better when it was spontaneous and it wasn't reduced to a single person in the stadium deciding when it got to occur. The only reason the atmosphere "has suffered" is because the team blows. And I dispute entirely the notion that "he is the only person who has proven that can get the chant going" - the chant went on for years, spontaneously, before the Jets (and really it was the league) decided every team had to have a SuperFan. Ed has taken away from the gameday experience, not improved it, imho. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/08/18/peter-schwartz-my-beef-with-fireman-ed/
Funny that you point out that article by Peter Schwartz because he signed the petition yesterday. If he can be the bigger man and do the right thing for the sake of gameday atmosphere, everyone should take note and really consider signing that petition.
Oh god. This guy again? Anything to try and gain some Internet attention. It's so extremely sad. Ed quit on the fanbase. In 2009 and 2010 that building would have been just as crazy if he wasn't there. Quality of the team matters a whole lot more than some dope waiving a firemans helmet screaming at people. Does Seattle have a policeman Rob that riles up that crowd? How would Fireman Ed get rid of the fan contests? And I would rather see the drumline honestly. At least they have some talent and have worked to be able to perform, as lame as it may be.
