We have fixed more than just one position. We have improved at WR, QB, and CB's. We have kept our leader on defense and are about to improve at S. We still need a Franchise QB and have taken ourselves out of at least controlling the situation because of 2 meaningless wins. The difference between 4 wins and 2 wins does not mean we weren't broken LY.
Qb upgrade is debatable. WR is upgraded but not transformed. The fact that the Jets have leaders is a good thing that results in winning. Teams like the Jaguars and Raiders get top players every year but can't get out of the basement. It's a team sport and winning is the objective, not getting higher draft picks. There are other means to getting a player that is highly coveted, namely, trading.
It's not debatable that we upgraded our QB. I'm not saying we have an answer for the next 5 years, but Geno sucks, and now we have a competent QB. I'm still not convinced Geno will even be on the roster by opening day.
Geno is young, and players often emerge right around this point. Nobody knows what Geno is going to emerge from this experience so that makes it plenty debatable.
Based on what we have seen Fitzpatrick is better than Geno thus he is an upgrade. If I am projecting into the future based on past results then Geno is going to suck. A good game or two at the end of the season is not going to change the 26 other games he's played horribly in.
Time will tell. It's difficult to apply conventional thinking to an entirely new regime. They all tend to separate themselves from each other, for better or worse.
Especially when that last team had it's bags packed and tee times set because they were knocked out of the playoffs the week before. _
Bump because the Titans are in such a great position to improve their franchise. Can either take a franchise QB or destroy another one by getting a kings ransom. It was never about 1 player it was about being in a position to do what we wanted. Not complaining anymore just checking to see who is still happy we won this meaningless game in particular.
Even if we lose that last game vs MIA we still arn't in the position Tenn. is in right now. They only had 2 wins. We lose that last game and we would be in the 5 spot (not much different than 6) Besides I was at that game and it felt good to get the W lol
You are a bad fan. 4-12 is SO much more awesome than 2-14. You realize 50 years from now Dolphin fans will STILL be smarting that we kicked their asses the last week of a season that they had already been eliminated from the playoffs. _
The first 5 picks are all future Hall of Famers, the first 5 in the 2nd round are career all pro players, the next 5 in the 3rd round are immortal Gods, the next 5 in the 4th round ..'forget about it'. The Jets 'need' to lay down when they are playoff eliminated ... For these highly coveted first round prospects.
Nice red herring. It's all about optionality. Would you prefer to have the 5th pick in the first round and every round thereafter? The extra ammo? Or would you prefer to have a team in front of you take decisions and ammo away from you? Oh wait, you're one of those guys that we can get great players all over the draft, draft position be damned. It's so easy to do you don't really prefer the optionality. _
It's not all about optionality, though. There is going to be an elite player available at 6. If the Jets don't have the personnel in place to identify that player amongst the entire group that is a problem. I understand preferring options; we all do which is why we are glad we are picking 6 instead if 26. But the option crowd is championing options by presenting the situation as if the Jets are SOL because they are drafting 6 not 2. It's just false.
I think you misunderstood me. In any other year, any other team, I'd agree. Not much difference between 5 and 6. Elite players all over the map. But for the Jets, for ME, for this year, because me, JStokes, thinks Mariota is a future elite franchise QB, I'd prefer to be as close to the top as possible. Could he bust? Sure. Could he be a jag? Sure. But we're all talking about our guesses. If we were the Giants and we had a quasi-franchise QB or the Dolphins or the Panthers--I wouldn't be so vociferous. But these Jets NEED a franchise QB and the guy I'VE targeted is MM. I could be wrong but if I'm not and we missed out on him because we won an historically franchise changing game against the Dolphins or the Titans, well, I'd be a bit perturbed. _
Im so happy this is up. I really hope the people who celebrated those meaningless wins are still celebrating tonight. Because those idiotic wins are going to cost us a shot at a franchise qb. But, at least we beat the Titans in the toilet bowl. Never forget...
