Cro was ranked literally the worst cornerback in football the year we released him. He was a product of a system in Arizona, and that much will soon be evident.
Have we seen the exact details of the contract before shitting all over it? I seem to remember Donovan McNabb's last deal looked amazing until someone actually read it.
Agreed. Last year people were upset we didnt give DRC or Munnerland or TJ ward the tons of money they wanted. now those same are upset because we gave it to revis/cro/skrines? secondary was our biggest weakness next to QB. now it is our strength... and we still have the #6 pick to work with.
Everything I read said Cro had a good first half last year. A not so good second half. Hardly great. He is too old, and not even worth the first 8 he gets.
I understand your point, but I think we have to remember that age is relative and it completely depends on the position. A 30 year old Qb is a heck of a lot younger than a 30 year old Running back. 30+ year-old CBs can play well if their skillset is not 100% based on their speed and physicality, but rather their technique. This is why I'm happy about the Revis signing but not as happy about Cromarties. That said, Cro looked bad in 2013 due to a hip injury, and he bounced back last season. He hasn't regressed yet. We can only hope he has a few more good years (or that we didn't guarantee him much.)
The cap is more than $20 million than it was the last time Cro signed a 4 year deal worth $32 million
When they play for us on the field you will see that of the three CBs we signed $8 mil for Cro was the best bargain.
Bingo right here boyeeeee!!! Can thank Idzik for this one. Listen...THANKS to Idzik, once again, the Jets HAVE to spend damn near to the top of the cap this year AND next year to comply with league rules. That can't be disputed. It's got to be spent somewhere... As long as Mo' gets paid and we have enough for our draft I'm a happy man.
Yup. It literally goes up every year now. Yet we have to pinch pennies so that maybe in 2032 we can field a competitive team according to some (aka the Idzik Doctrine)...
Newsflash! Unused cap space cannot take the field. Jets didn't do anything to their secondary last year and the team was terrible. No Jets fan should complain about this deal. Team addressed one of its biggest needs.
We're not paying a QB at the moment. We're not paying a good edge rusher. We have two premium interior defensive linemen to get under contract and a third who will come due next season or the season after. You're talking about $60M in unaccounted for cap costs that the Jets aren't paying because they either don't have the talent in house or they have them on cheap rookie deals that are about to get very expensive. Our cap situation has gone from very good to poor overnight and that is primarily because we have guaranteed a fair amount of money to people over 30 to go along with the guarantees that were already there for our aging vets due to past cap manipulations. It's amazing but the Jets are now one of the cap poor teams. Better win it this year or next because 2017 is really going to suck.
