Last I heard Gilchrist was at Florham Park. Has there been any news of this. I have seen nothing so far???
damn - I know those are highlight videos so obviously they are meant to make him look good but damn his versatility stands out to me. He's playing like 5 different roles/positions in that video. -centerfielder type safety -man & zone safety in the middle -man to man press coverage on the outside like a CB -coming up to stuff the run -blitzing why isn't he in more demand? He looks like a poor man's version of McCourty to me...
Lol, no we didn't. Yardage foes not tell the story, we were terrible at points per play, 3rd downs, red zone and last in tutnovers. We Were Actually terrible
I'd rather see us get Cro and convert him to FS. He's got the size, length and range, plus he'd be CB depth if we needed him. I've not given up on Milliner yet. He's had some unfortunate injuries and trying to cope with the learning curve coming into the nfl but he has all the tangibles and now the best CB since Deion to mentor him. I'd like to see this line-up: CB1 - Revis CB2 - Milliner SLOT - Skrine CB3 - McDougle FS - Cro SS - Pryor
Why convert a guy to play safety who never has before when you have the ability of adding a true safety to the roster? No one has given up on Milliner, he just can't be trusted at this point. He has dealt with injuries and has had a rough time so far in the league. That's not something Bowles likes when he has to rely on them to hold their man. Adding Cromartie removes that fear and allows Cro to play the position he knows, corner. Sign Cro and Gilchrist and let Milliner and McDougle learn from behind. I'm sick of worrying about getting beat deep.
Brian Costello @BrianCoz 2m2 minutes ago Free agent safety Marcus Gilchrist is having dinner with Jets coaches tonight and newly signed CB Buster Skrine. #nyj GET IT DONE MAC!!!
oh yards are useless now? lol we were a good defense with a major weakness in our secondary. that led to some inconsistencies, and some conflicting stats. biggest problem, passing TDs allowed imo.. we could play a team tough, not allow much offense for a couple series at all, and then a blown coverage TD to ruin all that. we were also very effective at stopping the run, and were getting to the QB despite that secondary weakness. it was pretty obvious what needed to be fixed in order to be a very good D...glad Mac and Bowles are doing just that.
points are a team stat, and not necessarily a good measure of defense. for instance, if yds allowed by defense is low, but points by opponents are high, where is the problem? obviously things on the other 2 units are breaking down, either directly or indirectly leading to points.
Points allowed by defense is a defensive stat and a much better gauge of defensive effectiveness as it pertains to winning games
not a defensive stat. pick 6's count, ST return TD's count, etc... the O or ST with a negative play reversing field position also effects it. ie the D forces a 3 and out, but opponent still kicks FG. it's a team stat.
You're really telling me that points allowed by a team defense isn't technically a stat? I get that it doesn't show up on sites like NFL.com and ESPN.com but I guarantee you I can find the points allowed by a team's defense and it will without a doubt be a better gauge of defensive performance than yardage allowed
