Everyone is looking at this wrong. the jets and cardinals played with 5 DBs or more more frequently then any other teams in the NFL (well, technically the browns more then the jets but both top 3). there are 3 starting CB spots on this team the way i see it. especially with the pats in the division. having 3 legit starting corners is how it should be looked at. I dont think they trust milliner/mdcougal to be good or stay healthy as they shouldnt. those guys should be depth. Bowles blitzed more then anyone last year, you need guys to cover when you do that
well i agree. don't think i'm saying anything differently...although i'm hoping between Milliner, Williams, and McDougle, we might just have another good CB on our hands. only speculating that Skrines may have more opportunities to stay on the field beyond Nickel.....ie 3S sets. if need be, he could also play outside CB. i like the versatility..
I agree that one of those three will end up panning out, the great part about this situation is that we aren't dependent on that happening any more and the pressure on them to take the next step is more because they aren't going to be handed playing time
That's a good post. Hope they get Cro. What a luxury it will be to have Milliner and McDougle as the #4 & 5 guys than as the #2 & 3 guys.
Rich Cimini @RichCimini 9m9 minutes ago Mike Maccagnan at Alabama pro day, per http://ESPN.com. Probably checking out WR Amari Cooper, among others. http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2015/story/_/id/12463068/amari-cooper-says-polished-receiver?ex_cid=espnapi_public… hmm..maybe this is why we aren't hearing anything.
I think this is a very useful observation. As it is for really the whole league your nickel Cb is your first man off the bench, like the sixth man in basketball, and that is more true than average for the Jets, as it was also for Arizona last year. Wilson's diminishing number of plays lst year was based on his sucking, not what Ryan wanted to do. Bowles will likely put in the nickel in virtually every passing situation.
Kimberly Jones @KimJonesSports 22s23 seconds ago Jets GM Mike Maccagnan has been busy today in Florham Park. Tomorrow, he'll be at Oregon/Marcus Mariota Pro Day. Jets own No. 6 pick.
I really want Cromartie back, he knows this defense and can still play. Plus this would give us a great CB group, even with Millner included.
NFL Network keeps flashing that Jets are "expected to sign Antonio Cromartie" through Ian Rappaport. Get this done!
Your right that is an exaggeration, i agree he has potential at safety, but is his development really something Rex should hang his hat on? I personally dont think so at all.
I think had we kept him at FS last year, he would have progressed nicely. He has all the skills, but when you're asked to change jobs out of nowhere, you probably aren't going to progress too much over the course of 1 season.
I bet they have agreed on yearly salary, but Cro wants the deal to include more years (and a higher guarantee). Hopefully we find out soon.
