Now that we have Marshall (and even more so if we actually go with Amari Cooper because Mariota is off the table), could Amaro actually have a BEAST of a year (not Gronk or Graham but top 5 TE) given that the defense will be paying much more attention to the WRs. I know it sounds simplistic, but even with just Marshall, I think that Amaro will benefit from 1) having the opposing teams defense preoccupied with our WRs and 2) finally having a decent QB in Fitz. I think he could be a top 5 TE next year because of this.
Probably mostly depends on the QB but Marshall opens up insane amounts of space for every other target. I hope Amaro can build off a rookie season that was very average. He needs to stop with the drops above all else though. Something like that can put you in a new coaches dog house pretty fast. I have confidence he will live up to his 2nd round status though. Not elite but better than most.
I wouldn't be so quick to say it'll be Fitz. A lot of what I read has signs pointing towards Geno. I agree that Amaro should really step up tho. If he can only stop dropping chest passes.
Decker Marshall Cooper Kerly Amaro Whew any QB should be able to lead us to the playoffs with that and the D we have
Nvm. I thought you meant off the table as in we aren't taking him. You mean if he's gone by our pick. Got ya
Only thing I want amaro to do better is catch the easy ones!! He had one easy catch a game he dropped. he was running before he got the ball
Yup..that's what I mean if Mariota is already picked..I'm hearing now the Redskins are possibly interested at 5. Anyway, with the offense spreading things out now, Amaro could be a great red zone weapon , something we failed at miserably last year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Fairly often last year I remember Amaro finding space, but Geno not seeing him. I'm sure Amaro is usually 3rd or 4th on his Geno's progressions, so he rarely got to him. Amaro also had a pretty good year by rookie TE standards, especially considering the Geno factor. Hopefully the Jets get into a habit of using Amaro a bit more within the offense. He's a matchup nightmare and knows how to box the defender out.
TEs usually make their jump in year 3. It might take Amaro until year 3 to make his big jump, if he does of course... However I do think with a spread out offense and Marshall & Decker on the outside, Amaro could be effective catching balls underneath
I think its more likely his numbers take a hit then go up. its not like he was getting doubled or a ton of attention last year, and decker when healthy saw more targets even with more attention on him. those other guys a re btter, will get open more, and get more targets.
I really wonder what that was all about last year. I thought he was a great pass catcher in college but it certainly didn't show last year here.
Owusu maybe.... Walt Powell and TJ Graham also play different roles on ST, and will compete for spots.
He has to make sure he holds on to the ball, but he can and IMHO will be very good for us going forward. I liked what I saw from him at times last season, then you saw things that you knew he was a rookie.....
Gronk Rookie Year: 16games 42catches 546yards 10 TDS Jace Rookie Year: 14 games 38 catches 345 yards 2TDs He also out played every other rookie TE last year by a considerable margin. Considering Gronk was playing with the best QB in the history of the league, and one was playing with one of the worst... I'd say we have something to build on. While 6 drops ~7% is a lot, He showed that he can make the hard catches and seemed he was trying to do to much before he had the ball. I think he'll get it figured out... and it's going to be good.
