So his first move in free agency was Brandon Marshall. If the rumors are true about Fitzpatrick, here's how it looks:

Trade 5th round pick to Chicago.
Receive Brandon Marshall and a 7th round pick.
Trade 7th round pick for Fitzpatrick.

So basically, with a 5th round pick we received Brandon Marshall and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

If we get Ryan Fitzpatrick for a 7th rounder I would be very happy.

And I'm not a huge Fitz fan, but that would be outstanding.

Agree. Worth every second of that trade. Good QB competition and a nice veteran who is familiar with Gailey's system to groom a guy like Mariota.

100% agreed, if he turns that 7th into Fitzpatrick that would be nice.

Oh and we still draft Mariota at #6

Dump Geno at Chad Pennington's How to be a Quarterback school

For this year, Fitz is probably the best stopgap QB we're going to get. If the Jets get Mariota, Fitz would be a good guy to learn behind for a year.

by no means am i a huge fitz guy, but i feel like with the combination of our new talent and chan gailey, that he can win here. worst case hes our guy over geno and we get more talent from the draft. best case hes got mariotta sitting behind him and hes mentoring him for the next year or two.

I like Big Mac already he's making smart moves, Revis and Cromartie(should be back) and Skrine at the nickel. Milliner and McDougle can't be relied on but if they could somehow solidify their draft position by Bowles getting in their ear along with Calvin Pryor we will have an elite secondary again.

If Fitzpatrick is a Jet, we need a pass rusher among the 1st 2 rounds.

    OLB
    RB

Have to be among the top 3 needs we go after. If you wanna take mariota in round 1 and quickly take a pass rusher in round 2 or Hundley in round 2 atfer a pass rusher in round 1, that's fine. Round 4 get yourself a WR, round 7 get a special teamer ILB.

Our first pick will be Mariota if he's there. If not, we likely will take a receiver there.

Pass rush I think will come in round 2

There probably aren't many QB's that are better towards helping Mariota develop than Fitzpatrick.

He's a smart guy with experience in the offense, who should be able to articulate the intricacies of it to Mariota. And Geno for that matter.

Fitzpatrick should be the starter going into the season, and if Geno proves to be a better option, so be it.

Recall there's that kid Marcus Williams who played well last year. Anyone think it is a realistic possibility that if we sign Cro, Milliner goes bye bye in a trade? Will save 3+ million against the cap I believe.

IMO the Jets should even consider wasting a draft pick on Hundley. He has jag or bust written all over him. I had high hopes for him a couple of years ago, but he hasn't developed or progressed at all.

If the Jets can't get Mariota at #6, then imo they should either take the best OLB prospect then move up or down as needed in the 2nd round to get the best remaining LT prospect, or trade down as far as needed in the first and take the best LT prospect, then take the best OLB prospect and WR prospect with the picks they got for trading down IF THEY CAN MATCH BPA WITH NEED.

Falco, great way to look at it.
If this comes to pass it could become the best free agency and draft since I can't remember when
1- A true number one receiver and a very serviceable QB, two instant experienced upgrades in area of need using one late pick.
2- we have a lot of leverage with the first four picks to bring in a QB, or stud OLB, OL, plus depth at WR or RB or FS.
We can almost fill in all the critical pieces with one draft and free agency.

As we move into future years Mac the Knife has the flexibility to build mostly through the draft and take care of our D studs contract wise, while looking at upgrades to OL and LB while trimming the roster as needed.

    Yup. Crazy man!

Starting number 1 wide receiver and possibly our starting QB, all for a 5th round pick!
