we are in competitive mode, which is all i can ask for... all teams are perpetually in rebuild mode, but still need to compete. only in very rare situations do you see teams go All In, or completely tear down.
I'm not a Jets fan but I don't know that I'd be looking at him with such enthusiasm. He's got a lot to prove, a whole lot. I think you guys are better off trying to make a move on a veteran. Mariota might be 3 years away, if he ever gets there.
I watched a bunch of Oregon games this week, it was interesting. If the Jets draft Mariota you gotta hope he doesn't step on the field for a couple of years. Forget the guys here that are saying he is a superior player right out of the gate, he may process info quickly but he isn't a quick player at all in terms of a ball handler, the ball moves in his hands slowly that that has to be fixed. His feet are awkward, he sometimes gets squared for the throw but most times it is like he is thinking about finding a better spot on the field and many times he ends up making things up as he goes. That may work in the college game but if you throw with your feet parallel to the LOS with one foot off the ground you better hope the receiver is wide open, which they often were. That doesn't happen a lot in the NFL. He's got a strong arm without a doubt, with better mechanics it's elite I think. But arm strength is nothing without touch. He does have a good amount of touch when the play is designed well, but you only see it on some short throws and some intermediate ones, he also will step too far into a throw and make a player leap or dive for what should be a routine catch. His foot speed is second to none, and he's very agile, his best runs are when the defense is either bunched together tightly or spread apart to the point of idiocy.
This is woody wanting to win the fans over now. These moves will sell jerseys beer and psl. The jets no longer want to be a laughing stock. Hopefully it turns us into a real winner
I agree with those who said we are in "competitive" mode. Our D alone should give us a shot at 8 wins. On the other hand, without upgrades on the O-line and QB position, 8 is probably the ceiling.
I think it's more about showing the fans that the front office and coaching staff will be proactive as opposed to reactive in regards to improving the team
You can't possibly be referring to Geno, he doesn't play under center.. now who is the Jets competent QB under center? ; )
