Maccagnan has already invested an astronomical amount of money in corners already today. I think it would be silly to bring in Cromartie too. The way I see our corner situation is that we can have Revis on the outside Skrine in the middle and then hopefully one of Williams/McDougle/Milliner makes a big enough leap to become our starter on the outside. Cromartie would be overkill, that's money better spent elsewhere, specifically locking up our D-line.
That's the smart offer and he is delusional if he thinks a decent defensive team will offer more, he'll end up with Jax or Oak if he wants to get paid what he thinks he's worth
If that happens, you have to assume Milliner gets moved in a trade. Revis-Cro-Skrine would be the top 3 CB's on this roster for the long haul. Unless, Cro signs a short 1-2 year deal, but even then..
I'm really starting think, that Buster Skrine may have been our solution at FS (and not CB) from the very beginning. Actually that would be a brilliant plan and would also be an explenation for our interest in Cro even after signing Revis and Skrine. Tyrann Mathieu made a similar position change for the Cardinals and did pretty well there. Mathieu and Skrine also seem like a similar type of player also... Just imagine: Revis, Cro and Milliner as (starting) CB with Pryor as SS and Skrine as FS. Sounds perfect; we suddenly would have one of the best secondarys in the NFL!
Long haul? I don't know how old Skrine is, but Revis is 31. Cro is about that old or older. They are NOT the CBS on the roster for the long haul.
That they are even talking to Cro means to me that they can't find a middle ground in contract talks with Mo and they can't get a solid OL product to commit to our shambles of an offense. They are going to spend the money and it will probably be on a cheap safety and possibly Cro
Sign Cromartie! If we have to get rid of Millner. Tell him to pack his shit and I'll drive him to Arizona or KC.
I've actually never seen him playing FS; but I think skill-set-wise he would be ideally suited to play exact the same role as Mathieu did/does for the Cardinals. I don't think too high of Skrine's cover skills - but they are certainly good enough for playing FS. And the ball-(hawking-)skills are obviously there as well...
interesting.. i can see it skill set wise. was thinking nickelback, with option of kicking him back outside should Milliner or Williams not impress, or should McDougle really impress on the inside. a flexibility thing... but playing him in a Mathieu role might be a possibility too. will b interesting to see what they are thinking...
Connor Hughes SOURCE: NY #Jets and Antonio Cromartie are in contract discussions as we speak. Per source, plan is to continue talking throughout night 12:46AM EDT Cro might be a Jet again before you sip your morning coffee.
The thing is, Skrine was brought in to be the Nickel replacement for Kyle Wilson. Revis is the #1 corner obviously. Right now Bowles is thinking he will have Revis and Milliner on the outside. Bowles probably doesn't trust Milliner yet. Therefore he plans to sign either CRO or Gilchrist there (not Culliver because too expensive). Cro should only cost 5-6 million.
Will you feel that way if he can't re-sign Mo or can't sign a FA QB because of all the money he's paying to CBs? Hopefully, it won't come to that, but with news that the Jets are in negotiations with Cro, their cap space is shrinking rapidly.
He's not dumb, he's not going to do anything that prevents him from resigning Mo. And there are never any good QBs available in free agency anyway.
