I think thats right. The Jets can grab a FS and Fitzpatrick, then the draft. Anything more and it gets tight.
In all honesty, I would be happy with Fitzpatrick. He would be a very good stop gap and a guy that I think could get us into the playoffs
What vet QB are you referring to in the FA thats left? Fitzpatrick is a possibility if released. Sure you can pick up the other 3 in the draft but depth of the LB is thin in this year's draft. They would have to grab a LB early. RB is definitely deep this year and can get a speedy pass catcher from the backfield. It too depends on what we do or go with at #6, getting MM or go defense such as Ray, Beasley etc.
My guess was 28 million. I was less than 2 million off!? LOL Hell yeah. http://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/jets-sign-revis.83612/page-12#post-3211329
In reality we have about $20 mil to spend. We need to account for picks, a vet QB and hopefully a safety. Mo is due a payday. Sheldon is due a payday. I know everyone is giddy right now but Mac has some extremely interesting times lying ahead of him. We could have serious trouble keeping Mo and Sheldon unless we cut Brick or Mangold loose.
I do think Brick could eventually be cut. But yeah, let's start taking care of our own players as well.
It will be interesting to see how Wilk and Sheldon perform with an improved secondary. Scary to think what could've been if these guys were here in 09-10. Im not worried about extensions for either right now though. Their time will come , older guys come off the books , money is freed up , cap increases etc...We'll be alright in that department.
Fitz or Moore will do, we need an experienced option to spell Geno and/or a rookie over the next to years. I'm wondering what our next move is….
I fully expect Brick to be a cap casualty coming soon...with him being solid, you really can't see him paying the type of money to keep him around. I think it's important to possibly look into grabbing a tackle in this draft AT LEAST...if you don't feel one of the understudy guys can handle the job.
Brick is more than likely out after this season as he's due 8.6 next year. Thank You! I thought I was the only one getting nervous about all this spending.
That's why imo it's imperative that the Jets find Brick's replacement in this year's draft. I don't think Mangold is going anywhere, but we can't pay Brick $17 million next season, and shouldn't re-negotiate his contract just to lower the cap hit while making him uncuttable due to the cap hit/dead money. Brick needs to go next year. With only $20 million left, I don't see any way that we're able to re-sign Mo. It will take $7-$8 million to sign the draft picks. At most that leaves $13 million, and that would leave no money for a rainy day or camp cuts. If they're signing Cro and Gilchrist, we can kiss Mo goodbye.
I'd re-sign Mo, sign a vet QB (Moore or Fitz), and get a TE (Virgil Green please!). if there is anything left, get RT competition. first 2 rounds of draft, BPA. after that, weighted towards RB, LB, FS, and Oline if we haven't sufficiently hit those spots by that point..
I am calling Philly got Bradford so that they can package him with the #20 and future picks for Mariota.
Virgil Greene has gone back to the Broncos unfortunately. I am not sure how I feel about resigning Cro. What about all the young CBs that we have drafted, Williams and Walls? Not going to give them a shot. We still have all these need like an OLB, FS, QB and a right tackle. If we resign Cro, we probably can't extend Wilk and we are back into cap normalcy. I want to see use Revis, Skrines and don't forget Millner is expensive. Let's go get an OLB with promise like Akeem ayers, a blocking TE like Spaeth and a veteran QB to compete with Geno. We can't afford $6-7mm on Cro at this point.
