Would love to get Revis but not at the exorbitant money he is asking. If we had the qb to get us to the next level I would say yes with GeNO and any rook at qb I say NO.
In today's corner market 13 million per year is NOT high for Revis- he's arguably the best corner in the league today (he won't be signed for this), that is the point I was trying to convey..
Regarding compared to what a lesser player was paid...if someone else pays Ferrari money for a Pinto does that mean I got a good deal on a Pinto if I only spent BMW money on it?
Tigers don't change their stripes. This is what Mevi$ is. He has always been this way and will always be this way.
Again, if it's 13M per year, including signing bonus, then that's a reasonable deal, depending on guarantees and such. But 16M with 50M guaranteed over 3 years, not a good deal. Again, it's not just about this year, hell I'd be okay with paying him 20 million this year if it meant in years 2 and 3 of the deal the Jets were only paying him 9 or 10 per year. That's the thing, it's not just about this year with the money. It's about 2016 and 2017 when we don't have as much free cap room to work with, especially if MO gets a big raise this year (as he deserves) and Richardson gets a big raise next year (which if he has another good season he'll deserve). It's not just about this year.
Wait wait wait. That other thread got shut down but you were real specific about what a corner shouldn't be paid and that number wasn't even remotely close to 20m a year and there were no conditions. Do you always move the goal posts like this?
Right, and then next year he holds out b/c at 9million he is way below market value...he's done it before.
And of course you can't stand the idea of not spending all $$ because if there is a penny still left, FO doesn't do their job, right
Yeah I have heard that 2 years after he got his first big contract with the Jets that he was holding out. But he didn't, not even close, and people continue to say he did. It's bullshit.
In this case the only specific context is Revis, if you want to talk other values about other players that's fine. right now, as the roster sits at this moment with the current signings the Jets have 56 Players under contract and 46M in remaining cap space. Next year if you just look at the surface the Jets have 19m more in free cap space than the Jets have right now, but they only have 35 players under contract for 2016. that's 18 short of the 53 man roster, and that's with Wilkerson off the books entirely, Chris Ivory gone, Demario Davis gone, Quinton Coples gone, etc. It's always about the bigger picture.
Exactly...and that's why a front loaded contract doesn't work for Revis despite the fact he's getting paid the same if it was backloaded. The problem is a backloaded contract will kill the Jets because in 2016 and 2017 the cap isn't nearly as good.
By rule, they have to spend 89% of the cap over a 4 year period ending next season. Because they were so far under last season, they have to spend almost all of it or write a meaningless check to the NFLPA. So, yes, I'd rather have them spend every penny. You'd rather they spend it on a fine as opposed to a player?
