They offered $35mil guaranteed before the FA period. They also only offered McCourty $20ml guaranteed before others offered him more and they upped their offer. $48 for 3 years is pretty darn steep tho.
It's an interesting dynamic. $16M a year is too much for a CB but the cap isn't $100M like it was when Aso was getting that from the Raiders. It's $143M now and so the hit is more doable without damaging the teams competitive stance. I'm betting Todd Bowles is on his knees begging the FO and Woody for Revis at that price.
I don't actively want him at that money, but he IS really good still and I don't think it's a death knell considering both the increase in the cap and the Jets current situation within it.
If he goes to the Browns it is truly just about the last $$$ for him... though he will sell it like the home town boys returning to his roots.
You are right. It's not a bad price, considering the higher cap. Plus, the Jets HAVE to spend the money, and there is no one else out there
yep, just like Rex was no doubt doing the same last offseason. The difference this year......Maccagnan knows talent, and will listen to his coaches and fellow scouts.
This is craziness, I know, but against my better judgement I'm increasingly hoping that they try to cash in on Mo right now via trade. I know, I know. Great player, young, and a hometown kid to boot. I don't know where the desire is coming from...
Revis wouldn't have made a big difference last year. The offense was what destroyed the Jets season. The defense basically held it's own in most of the games and then crumbled when the offense let them down again.
The desire is coming from the same place mine is, which is the fear the Jets will lose Wilkerson for very little in a year or two if they don't act one way or the other this off-season on either a contract or a trade. If the Jets could get Kaepernick for Mo right now I would jump all over that deal. Then take a pass rusher on the 6 and the team is much better positioned going into 2015 than we had any reason to expect they'd be.
I'd have Mo play this season, franchise him next season, and then pay him in 2017. You could get rid of Revis at that point, spread the cap hit over two season, have plenty of money to sign Mo, and you'd have them both for two years.
