Classy move by the Jets releasing Harvin before the first wave of free agency had passed and allowing him to potentially get a decent payday.
Mac has to spend it. 89% has to be spent between 2012-2016, or else the NFLPA splits the money up to the players who were on the roster during those years. I'm thinking Mac offered Revis $48 million, 40 which is guaranteed, for the first 3 years of the contract he offered. I'm also assuming he's going to spend a lot on tier 2 players, overpaying by a million here, a million there, but not drastically overpaying, as some do on tier 1 players by millions.
The fact that Mac has to spend the money will work FOR us, not against us. That he has that kinda cash available I'm sure isn't lost on Revis. I'm thinking he's gonna back up the Brinks truck for Revis, then spend what's left over on tier 2 guys. Hopefully, all of it on a long overdue OLine upgrade. What's gonna really be interesting is the draft. Mac hasn't done bad for a rookie GM so far. At least it looks like he's a honest broker when it comes to negotiations. Something I think Idzik wasn't known for. If MM isn't available, he'll either go after the top WR available or trade down. I'm thinking Kevin White if Cooper is off the board IF we stay at 6. Nice to see Offense being the focus Revis not withstanding.
agree to disagree. basically 89% of the cap from 2012-2016 is already spent, woody can't avoid paying less. the gm won't really be spending any extra of woody's dollars by going after revis, the gm is just allocating that already spent money to where he wants it to go.
I think Mac has done a great job. But to be honest, I thought Idzik did a great job when he brought in the top qb, top rb, and top wr in last year's free agency. the corner fiasco and the draft were his downfall.
Lets look ahead to a better day. We're way too experienced at suffering. Time to try being hopeful for a change.
