Never looked at pff, what did they say about barnes? I thought he looked stout in limited snaps.
i think they tendered him at a 2nd so someone wll bite. They don't have to any work just let him shop around and decide later. At a 1st round tender doubt anyone bites

I didn't specifically notice him playing poorly either so I was a little surprised too. Here are the numbers for every Jet from 2014: http://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/pff-2014-rankings-for-every-jets-player.83033/

That's probably true; a 2nd round tender at least gives them the possibility of a trade if that's what they're interested in. But he's probably been the best NT against the run over the past two seasons.

I think this is a terrible move. Indy is a team that got run over several games last year and need beef upfront. And they pick very late in round 2.

im with satoshi.. im not losing sleep over it. hes solid but he is playing with richardson and wilkerson next to him, i should hope he plays well. right now with the abundance of cap room its not issue but most teams in our position wold face the task of having to say goodbye to keep richardso /wilkerson and thats a no brainer, wed all feel fine about ellis and barnes filling in.

that being said i would prefer hes suiting up for the jets next fall and in future years. a second round tender is just perfect, just enough to make you think about it but not overinflating his value. besides wit the cap not being much of a problem if someone signs him it might do the jets a favor in that they can easily match if they want too and the negotiation is over.

I hope we keep snacks man... he's highly underrated around the league so hopefully that will play in our favor in keeping him.

Perhaps Wilkerson and Richardson look so good because they are playing next to Snacks.

2nd round tender is actually ideal for Snacks.....We can analyze an offer if one comes in and maybe decide the 2nd is more valuable depening on contract and team.....and if no one gives him an offer sheet we save a few mil vs. giving him the 1st

I agree and this is why you don't rely on free agent vets that arrive with pre-existing problems and conditions. The Jets defense was built around Revis but Jenkins was the most necessary part in it.

Only way another team takes Harrison, even with a 2nd round tender, is if they need a run stuffing 2 down NT. and even then the Jets would have the option of matching the offer.

We're going to wind up with a Randy Thomas situation here. Somebody will correctly analyze the situation and make an offer for Snacks that we can't easily match. The difference is that we have the cap space to keep Snacks if somebody goes overboard on him, whereas we had zero chance at keeping Thomas when the Redskins overloaded the offer.

Then next season we'll either have Snacks at a contract that is somewhat unpalatable or we'll have a hole in the middle of the defense as big as the hole we had at RG in 2003.

Everybody who liked T.J. Barnes last year is no longer with the Jets.

So we just gave the Pats the opportunity to overload an offer to Snacks and make us match it.

The Pats have plenty of cap room if they've decided to move on from Revis.
