Too many fans push the panic button way toooooo soon. Its sad. We have been involved with other players, they decided to go elsewhere. F/A hasn't even started yet and we are already seeing dramatic posts like thiss. Lol Unless you are joking, then my bad, if not, calm down.
we all know that spending heavily in free agency is the recipe for long term stability and success.....
I wonder how many offers the owner of firemaccagnan.com is fielding from all the Jets fans ready to jump off a bridge. He could make some decent money off that sale!
Yeah but the A level talent is getting scooped up left and right. Not to mention these are legit players in the positions we desperately need to fill.So a little WTF can be expressed right about now.
Not really. We are reportedly pursuing these guys. You can't make them come here, unless you overpay by a lot and that is how you get your team in a lot of trouble. Let's face facts, we may not be a very desirable team to players right now, we have a lot of work to do to become respectable again. I don't think we are contenders in the eyes of a lot of these players, which hurt the overall process as well.
what a-level talent is there available that hasn't either been tagged or signed by their existing team? and of that talent pool who has been signed by other teams so far?
Football free agency is so different than baseball or basketball. NFL free agency is like shopping at the outlets vs. the real store. Yeah, you might be able to get a really good bargain here and there, but the vast majority of stuff is at the outlet for a reason. It is stuff that people who had the first shot at purchasing found no desire to meet the price tag on. This is why I can't get too worked up about anything that goes on in NFL free agency - it's a market of mostly tertiary players that get treated like primary or secondary guys by the media and public because they get labels like "the best WR on the market". I think perspective is really important when it comes to the signing period in football. Young Pro Bowl types like Suh and Iupati are the best players you can hope for, but even they're flawed (Iupati's pass blocking and injury history, Suh's insanity) and you're still paying an insane-level premium on them. I understand we have money and a rickety roster in need of repairs, but I really believe it needs to be done in a more healthy way than the bloated, high-end contracts in FA. Mid/Low level FA signings, trades, and the draft. When you're close to contention and a difference maker hits the FA market, THEN swing for the fences. I understand that not everyone agrees though.
There is always the odd/rare exception but every year it seems to be pretty much the same - Great players - the kind you build a team around - pretty much NEVER become available through free agency, build through the draft and pray for a great QB is the only way to do it.
This is indeed a proven method for success! {sarcasm} Actually, this is a good article that provides some interesting information on teams that spent, didn't spend, and spent on stars etc. Too long of an article (w/charts) to paste. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on...ning-why-teams-succeed-or-flop-in-free-agency
Yes, we have money to spend, but why would these guys come play for the Jets? Our owner sucks. Our FO and coaching staff are brand new. We aren't competing for a championship. Our fans are constantly bitching, moaning, booing, and buying billboard space to trash the team. The NY media sucks, and tears down players to feed the negativity that follows this team. The weather is shit. Traffic. Cost of living. Etc. Etc. Phoenix sounds pretty damn good in comparison.
I know its not good to over react to this kind of stuff but I keep feeling like we will never be a location people want to come too unless we have a top end quarterback and the player coming is late in his career wanting a ring. Which doesnt look like will happen any time soon. So the other way to get them to come is pay alot which our guys wont do
I just find this attitude so frustrating. Of course it's too soon to push the panic button, but early indications are not good. Yes, we can still have a successful offseason, but are you more or less optimistic after potential FA targets like Franklin, Iupati, Maxwell, K. Jackson, McCourty, etc. are gone?
He made it sound extremely brutal but there was a lot of truth within his post. I'm a sunshiner I would say and even I agree there is a ton of work to do to restore the image of this team.
Yeah. There are a lot of quality players left, F/A hasn't even officially started yet for fuck sakes. You don't turn a team around through F/A anyway, its a proven fact, every year it's the same song and dance. I don't understand why people can't grasp it. So anyway. After F/A comes the draft, that's the most crucial part of the off season. I can appreciate posters frustrations during the draft process way more than F/A panic. Conclusion. The off season hasn't even officially started, calm down and at least let the process unfold a little before you blow your load for no reason.
I just can see two very very realistic ways that the whole process of free agency and the draft can play out. One being amazing for us and the future and the other being horrible
free agency hasn't started and who knows, as Frank Gore shows us, maybe we still have a shot at some FA's who have "committed to other teams"
