its a good move actually, for both sides. Sanchez obviously gets a decent amount more than he would have had he fit free agency, a chance to prove his future worth in a QB friendly offense and probably his best chance yet to hit those incentives. The eagles get a good backup with valuable experience thats shown he can operate kelly's system well… well enough anyway, I mean theres a reason he's not the outright answer there or anywhere. really the biggest benefit for the eagles is that they have options over the next two years regardless of what happens with Foles or Mariota. if they don't get Mariota than they have a bridge starter ready to go in case Foles fails his final audition. if they do they have a vet ready to supplant the rookie if need be. Kelly says he likes having two starting QB's on roster, that means one is definitely gonna be a fringe type starter due to the cost of some of the best out there, Sanchez works perfectly for that purpose. not for us though, thats a retread with no real upside….
For what it's worth, Tebow is throwing his hat back into the ring. He's attending the Vet Combine in an attempt to get another QB gig somewhere. Buffalo? hahahaha
If I was stocking the roster on any other team then I'd take a peek but given our history it wouldn't make sense to bring him back and tbh I doubt he'd want to.
If Foles leaves and they trade up for Mariota then Mark could end up the starter in Philly for 2015. As for Fitz he is wildly inconsistent. He hadn't played well since he signed that big contract with Buff.
Not true at all. I'd hardly call a QBR of 95 last year (and 82 the year before) and completion percentages of 63% and 62% over the last 2 seasons as "not playing well." He's played for two new teams each of the last 2 years. Those stats are pretty impressive, especially considering how many times he's been sacked (21x each season), playing behind poor OLs and not having many weapons around him. Oh, and he's also had the highest YPC of his career the last two seasons 7.0 in 2013, and 8.0 last season.
I fully support bringing Sanchez back if his role is to be that guy who fires T-shirts into the crowd. As far a football player goes, he is dog shit and a turnover machine. If the Eagles don't find a starting quarterback and decide to go with Muck I'm going to bet very heavy on under 9 wins for Phili.
Has Sanchez not been the luckiest guy ever when it comes to money.. 60 mill from jets and now just keeps racking millions. Lol
The question is not whether or not he Sanchez is better than the available free agents like Hoyer, Fitzpatrick, etc (and I would argue he is not the best of the crop available). The question is what to do if Mark Sanchez is the best available veteran QB for you to have as your starter going into a season. And the answer to that question is: If Mark Sanchez is the best available veteran QB for you to have as a starter going into a season, your best course of action is to find a rookie (or young player who has never got an opportunity to start) and play him instead and hope you find a diamond in the rough. Because we already know Mark Sanchez is a bottom 5 starting QB in this league, and you're not going to win a Super Bowl with him, so any time where he is your starting QB is quite literally time being wasted on putting your team in a position to win a Super Bowl. You say "Give me Mark Sanchez" ... I say "Give me a rookie 4th round draft pick instead".
I think if you asked people in Buff they'll tell you that Fitz was horrible after getting that contract. Plus both teams that signed him since he left the Bills have cut him. As for sacks he's slow and takes sacks. Can't always blame that on the O-line. I'd still consider signing him rather than going with Geno. I read today that Hoyer will choose between the Texans and us today.
He was bad in Buffalo, but for whatever reason, he has played better the last two years. I agree that you can't always blame sacks on the OL, so he has to take some share of the blame, but still think his numbers are pretty impressive. He at least knows Gailey's offense and would give us some possibility of replacing Geno in the starting lineup.
