The best bet at this point is to be patient and wait for Bradford to shake loose. Bradford is too risky to anoint the next franchise QB, but his talent and upside are far greater than anyone else available, so the Jets can take a lightning in a bottle approach with him while seeking the franchise QB. Geno serves just fine as the backup QB, which is why I'm entirely opposed to getting a QB that is on his level, like Hoyer and Fitzpatrick. The Jets don't need two of those. Geno serves his purpose in that role already.
Um gee maybe because there are no starters available. Besides Fitz has been a starter, last year and a pretty good one.
So you want to pass on any QB that could provide competition for Geno (and probably beat him) because we MIGHT draft Mariota in over a month? That's just not smart. What happens if you don't draft Mariota? You hope Matt Simms, who shouldn't even be in the league, is enough competition for Geno?
Why does it matter if we have a slightly better player as our back up? The plan shouldn't be for either to be the starter. Geno's cap hit this upcoming season is about 2M less than Fitzpatrick's last season. Even if Fitzpatrick signs for less than last season, why do we need to spend more on a back up when we already have one?
even if we draft mariota he isn't going to come in and light it up right away he is best to sit a season I would much rather watch Fitz play the season than Geno
Mariota? You mean that kid out of Oregon? The one we probably won't be able to get in the draft and if by some miracle we can then we should sit for a year? What's your backup plan if we don't get Mariota? Petty?
That might is a high probability might. Realistically, no team ahead of us currently is going to take him. Are we really going to make an unneeded signing just to account for a team trading away their next few drafts for Marcus fucking Mariota?
Then we need to trade Geno. We don't need to be paying three starters/back ups that kind of money. Two of them and someone like Simms. I know we have a ton of cap space now but if we actually spend a lot, we are going to need to work on a budget to make sure we aren't over the cap.
Why will we probably not get him? Are you banking on the Eagles leapfrogging us? If we don't get him, sign some shitty back up and give Geno another season. The difference between Fitzpatrick and someone like Colt McCoy isn't that big. We can afford to wait for the draft to sort out our QB situation.
Why do you keep bringing up money like Geno or Fitz would break the bank? Geno's cap hit is $1.6 million. Fitz's this year would be right around the same number considering he made $3 mil last year and probably would be taking a pay cut.
Geno only cost 1.3 towards the cap that is nothing no reason to not keep him And I wont even comment on the trading Geno
All options baring a trade are different variations of shit.. Pointless covo as we discuss who sucks less.
I thought I was out of touch and you stopped responding to me? The cap will start to matter if we sign 2 CB's and Iupati. Maybe it doesn't now, but if we actually upgrade the team like we want to, we aren't going to have tons left, so we need to be working on a budget for the non-crucial positions, and I view back up QB as that.
You are extremely out of touch. Out of a pure quest for laughter, I wanted to see you defend your salary comment. You didn't disappoint.
Geno's cap hit is exactly why we shouldn't trade him. He's not a starter. Maybe a back up and he's cheap. Keep him for now in that role. Draft Mariota. If he's not there when we pick, then sign someone like McCoy to back up Geno and revisit the QB situation after the season. We don't need to make a bad deal just for the sake of doing something.
