Completely eliminate our need at corner? Milliner is on the other side. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Paying Revis 15+ M is better than what the Raiders did last year, overpaying for over the hill vets who can't produce on the field. You're gonna have to spend the $50 M somehow over the next few years to be in compliance with NFL law. Might as well be for a future HOFer, the best at his position, at the team's biggest, most desperate need area.
im usually all for getting younger but in the case of revis I want him to come home. Its our biggest weakness, we have the money, elite cb play is a necessity for bowles defense, and its weakening the pats. Yes he is going to be 30 by the time the season starts but he is one if not the best cb to ever play the game and because of this I think he will last a lot longer than people think. plus think of the influence he can have on the younger guys. you think ed reed helped out milliner, wait until the all-worlder comes back to give him a couple tips. at this point so many top guys are already off the market I feel like we are going to get him because of the price influx due to maxwell, jackson contracts etc, and honestly there are not many top tier guys left for us to target, not even just cb, but any position. still would like mccourty as an alternative big name target.
I have no faith milliner will ever pan out. I hope I'm wrong, I just have a feeling he's gonna go down as another disasterios pick.
I was happy with the Revis trade but now that I look back we should have just given him the 15-16M and been done with it for 4-5 years at the time. Or even last year. It may be harder now with him tasting NE.
No the trade was the right move... Where idzik fucked up was after his(revis) ego was hurt and he got released and was telling anyone who would listen he wants to come bsck. Ofcpurse that idiot did nothing, he probably could have been locked up for a few years at 12/13 mill a year. Now that's a pipe dream and it is going to require an absurd amount to pry him back. So much money, is debatable if it's worth it
Mccourty is a higher priority than Revis so hopefully that makes him want to come back here. With him at cb and a good qb I personally think we can be serious contenders. Pay the man. It would be another huge step in the right direction.
after missing out on mccourtney, do whatever it takes to get him here. revis becomes our number one free agent target
Revis has never helped anyone but himself . This idea that he is a leader or a good locker room presence or a good teammate is BS. Revis is a loner who cares about the money he is paid. He never cared about winning until this season. He never came to the defense of Ryan or Sanchez or other Jets when they were the target of the media in 2010 and 2011-12. When the Jets locker room was a mess in 2011-12 where was he? The Jets best player was not only completely silent and invisible , he was spending all his time worrying about his contract and threatening hold outs. He may put a ton of time into his craft and be a great individual contributor, but he doesn't give a shit about anybody but Revis. He will not be and never has been a leader or a mentor or a team player. And the last thing he will do as a 30+ year old is mentor young CBs who may one day replace him. He will be the Brett Favre of CBs in his later years. The best thing for the Jets is if he resigns with the Pats for 4-5 years tomorrow so we all can move on from this perennial crap.
alright you addressed exactly one aspect of my reasoning for his value, and the weakest one at that. im still all for stealing a hof corner back from our biggest rival to serve as a cornerstone in this defense that is founded upon having elite cbs. would i have prefered a younger option? yeah, absolutely. is he selfish? hell yes.
He's not a leader because he's not a loudmouth to the media?? Ever hear of leading by example? When he played here he played in an era where players and coaches, especially Rex wouldn't shut the fuck up. Him quietly taking his job seriously and being all business WAS leadership! By the way most of that bs you are spewing you have no idea about- he gets nothing but rave reviews and respect from his teammates. Also, his leadership is plenty good enough for the best coach of this era in belichick. Being devoted to your craft is leadership: you don't have to be a talker to be a leader
completely agree, have never heard anything but revis being essentially the most professional corner in all of football.
What about the rest of the team? What about resigning Wilk? What about upgrading at both guard positions? If you want to improve the team and build a respectible offense, build an elite OK, don't spend 1/3 of the available cap money on a 30 year old on the downside of his career who can only cover one receiver at a time. What about an OLB to replace Pace? A better RT? When do Mangold and Brick need new contracts? How about a RB who can catch and has big play ability ? How bout building a pass rush so coverage is not that important and the defense is not reliant on blitzing to get to the CB? Signing Revis to a 4-5 year $15 million per year contract means three of these needs go unfilled. If you have a team like the Pats, one player vpcan make a difference. The zjets are more like the 2013 Bucs and how much did Tecpviscand his $16 million a year contract help, them? 4-12 that's how much. Say no to Revis at anything mote than $10 million per year, which is what top CBs are pais, particularly when they are 30
dont really want revis back unless its on a team friendly deal which wont happen the time to make the move was last offseason when they desperatley needed a corner and he hadnt joined the enemy yet
When this team was in crisis and the locker room was a mess in 2011-12 with the Holmes saga, the Burress saga, the Tebow saga, and with Sanchez under attack, where was the Jets best player? More importantly when his coach, Ryan, who designed a defense that made him a superstar and sung his praises constantly, was under attack for losing the team and for being labeled a clown, where was Revis?. He didn't need to be a loud mouth. He needed to be a leader and support his team, QB, and his coach. But we heard nothing. It was not a time to lead by example on the field, it was a time for the team's best player to support the HC publicly, to say "Sanchez is our QB" and to either say the locker room as fine or call out the problem children. Instead we got silence except when he was asked whether he would hold out, and then we got "I might" and " I don't know." Some leader.
The Jets would be smart to bring Revis back. End of story. The guy is an elite corner and fits what Bowles does very well.
