oh so you're gonna be that guy this was a perfect fit, I'm just wondering why they weren't even in the race. bowles like his safeties.
hm, y'know some say give some players a blank check and be done with it, but one has to wonder how effective that really is. we could have offered this man SO much more, yet he seems content in foxboro. the hopes and dreams of many a fan find themselves stymied just before real action is even possible.
Damn I wanted Devin to leave NE. The #1 most desired free agent of most Jets fans here is off the market...
Reported numbers are 5 yrs/47.5M with 28.5M guaranteed. Sounds like 1M base salary year one with a 15M signing bonus and years 1-3 guaranteed. That would give the Patriots about 12M (accounting for draft picks) in cap space this year with which to re-sign Revis, which would be doable with more signing bonus voodoo. Edit: Wait... I can't count. It's more like 5M. Still possible, but much more difficult.
If NE can only offer 12m, that puts us in good position to make a move on Revis. Haven't heard any other teams interested in him, and plenty of teams couldn't offer more than 12m if they wanted to. Will Revis give NE any sort of discount? Even if he won't and the Jets are the high bidder, I could see him threatening to go to NE to "play with a contender" to drive our offer up. Next 2-3 days will be interesting.
12m in cap space doesn't mean they can only give him 12m. Revis will be back in NE come Tuesday and I'm fine with it. Move our attention to guys like Culliver and Cro and Skrine with Rahim Moore as an option at safety. Three of them combined could cost what Revis would.
Who says they didn't? Tweets are limited to 140 characters. Besides, it's entirely possible he wasn't interested at all.
That sounds great and all, but that's assuming we can convince all those guys to sign. Bottom line is that it's very rare for teams to sign 3+ impact free agents. Teams are typically lucky to get 2 solid starters.
Exactly, I'm pretty sure that if there was a chance where they could've make him an offer, they probably would've.
I wonder what teams offered him more. Probably not us. Not a shock that he'd go back to NE. Didnt seem too enthused about possibly signing with us or the Giants. Too much family drama is how he put it. Revis will go back to New England though. Brady will start to pay the team to open up cap space.
Well we don't really have an option. Revis is going back to NE and we would be dumb to overpay for him anyway. Time to look at the secondary market.
he took less money to stay in NE i read, so it seems like we probably weren't in the sweepstakes maybe it is possible that revis said he won't go back to NE so the patriots dedicated most of their cap to mccourty. maybe, idk
