Agree 100% We have a ton of money that we are REQUIRED to spend. We have a huge need at corner. We solved our receiver problem and we need a corner. Why wouldn't you spend the money on Revis? Best corner available and enough money to sign him and multiple other free agents.
he's on the wrong side of 30 and we STILL don't have a quarterback. so, no. go younger, less expensive, with upside. revis, while great, is on the downside.
What you need to remember is, Jets didn't really have to have a 12M CB commanding the secondary to have a good defense. Remember when Jets had Shaun Ellis and John Abraham crashing in from both ends. Jets back then certainly didn't have the best secondaries in the NFL, but they still created a lot more turnovers than the past two years of Ryan defense. Jets now have a real good foundation to build upon - a fearsome 3-4 DL. That's NOT an easy talent roster to assemble. Parcells once came up with his Planet Theory out of his exasperation over the lack of quality prospect at 3-4 DL. Learn to appreciate what we already have, and build upon it.
You could argue the Pats overpaying a 30 year old injury prone cornerback hurts them worse in the future. I am thinking that the Jets are still years away unless they get someone like Foles who can come in and win now. I have reached the point where I am hoping the Pats go "all in" and then become like the 2004 Raiders after everyone retires at the same time. I doubt it would happen exactly that way, but they certainly won't be as good without Tom Brady as their QB. With the Dolphins and Bills loading up on free agents, the AFC East looks pretty scary right now and we still don't even have an average offense at this point. I would rather the Jets take their lumps now and build this gradually and when the other AFC East teams have their money stuck in aging vets, we have youth and cap flexibility. IMO we need to take a middle of the road approach considering we had Tanny and then did a 180 with Idzik. Give me Cro and a good safety for an average price than allocating all this cap room to 1 player who can only do so much.
Their cap space doesn't really matter much as long as they have Brady under center. I agree though, he did deserve it, but I can't get that corny ass smile image out of my head, with him holding the trophy. Also, yeah maybe I would do the same thing. I'll never know. I wouldn't hold out 18 times though. I wouldn't put myself in a situation to get traded in the first place. I would be a loyal player to my team that took a chance on me, and paid me a ton of money. (like the Jets were doing before he left)
You guys know that now that we're all getting our hopes up, he is a sure thing to stay with the Pats. Then it's back to hating on the guy every day. Such is life at TGG.
4-5yr/60-75M with 30-35M guaranteed. I would even go up to 15.5, either way he would be the highest paid corner. Might as well get rid of the 12M option because that is not happening.
and a million reports an hour ago said Maclin was resigning with the Eagles and just signed with the Chiefs. Until it's official just sit back and relax
They need to find money for just one of them, I have no idea how they can swing both. I think they are still over the cap
time to move on..he is 30 already and will cost a lot and we have a ton of holes.i would rather sink the money into the d-line that disrupts the game and who are all under 27
They'll make the whole Revis contract into bonuses n shit and find a way to make it work. It's the Pats after all.
Including the "$20 million" they're spending on Revis. They haven't opted out of the team option quite yet so their cap space is a bit misleading.
I didn't think of that.. So they have 16 mill in cap space if they don't pick up the option? Assume as always revis wants MORE lol, how can they resign him and mccourty
